When we were younger we used to sit on my porch
And talk smack about girls and professional sports
There's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way
(One) take a good look at all of our high schools
this is the first reason that I want to write you
it must be tough when society is messed up
Gotta save money, please don't take it out on us
Do they even know? Do they even know?
If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
But for now I won't say nothing
Now that we're older a brand new story unfolds
About God and the laws that we've always been told
And there's a lot of things I wanted to say
But never got a chance to find a way
Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left
Do they even know? Do they even know?
If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something
Take a good look at Tommy, he's a track star
Good role model, has a chance to go real far
Then the school made a budget-cut
Cut out the track team
Now instead Tommy is a crack head
Same-sex marriage in a state where they don't care
Murder is wrong but the jail time's not fair
Not to mention date rape, felony, and car theft
Break it down and tell me what we've got left
If I was brave I'd write a letter to the president
And have him pass it to the leaders of our parliament
But for now I won't say nothing
From all the kids who would stand in my residence
Who see this letter as a statement of our innocence
As for now I'll start with something (Woah, Woah)
As for now I'll start with something

Review about Letters To The President Go Justin. | Reviewer: Ashleigh | 10/1/09
I disagree with you, I love every line of the song, but there are so many places I could go to debate that. Why here? Appreciate the song. Like Justin said, they're speaking their minds, it's a song people. Get over it.
Second off, I don't agree with the part that seems to be focused on so much in these reviews. The "Same sex marriage" lyric. Personally, I could care less how someone wants to live their life. It's not my place to say it's right or wrong. Personally, I am heterosexual, however, if any or all of my closest friends told me they weren't, they'd remain my closest friends. Sexual preference, in my opinion, is someone's own business and they should have the same rights as anyone else.
HOWEVER, I believe that very strongly, yet I still absolutely love this song. The message emphasizes how many wrongs there are with the world, and how often they go overlooked. Even if you simply love the song for the "beat" or the "rhythm"...whatever, it shouldn't matter. I'm one of the most liberal people you'll ever find, however, I'll listen to this song with a smile every time, because it's a band speaking their mind. They feel there is an injustice being done, and this is how they convey that. Enjoy the song, enjoy the music, and keep the political/religious jargon somewhere else. This is a music forum.
And to Ninja28, I watched the video you referenced. I do encourage you to remember however, that Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. A terrorist organization, with support primarily in Afghanistan was responsible for that. We officially went to war with Iraq because of misinformed intelligence reports claiming they had weapons of mass destruction. After viewing the video you referenced, I encourage you to watch one that I recommend. Have a look at this user-submitted video montage for the song, "Fields of Agony" by 'No Use for a Name'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WGKtqP3M-0
Why we shouldn't just shut up... | Reviewer: Ninja28 | 8/16/09
If you just accept it as another sin then how will they ever know what is wrong about it? And as for shutting up about gay marriage, I have one word, never. As a Christian, I do not want to be paying for something I do not agree with. By shutting up and not speaking out about this I am condoning it. It is like abortion. I do not believe in it, so why should I pay for it. If you want to do something with your life fine, but do not ask me, or anyone else that does not agree, to help you. It is like socialized healthcare. DO NOT tell me you have a right to health care, and then turn around and ask me to pay for it. So you can have your gay marriages, but do NOT do it on church property, and do NOT make it funded by tax payers that DO NOT agree with that.

umm all you people saying that being gay should be ok its not god loves everybody including sinners and gays but he also said that they would not be let into heaven if you dont believe me read the bible
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
"dude chillzzz"?? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/6/09
OK the dude who wrote "fool around with people of the same ." how is that any different than fooling around with people of the opposite ?? Fooling around is considered sinful. That's it. If a man is in love, why does it matter with who?? They don't choose "oh I think I'm gonna start loving men" Everyone knows love doesn't work that way. God embraces all people and he tells us to do the same. What do u think "treat others how you want to be treated" means?? I have a very good friend who is one of the nicest, kindhearted guys ever. Unfortunately he calls himself a "gay r" This could be considered being hypocritical. HE goes to church, but is ignoring one of God's 10 commandments. I think many people make the same mistake. These people just need open mindedness.
I'm sorry that you think the war does not matter. It is a shame that all the deaths on 9/11 were for nothing if thats what you believe. They came to us. We did not go to them. They attacked us. We are defending freedom for us and the people of Iraq. That's what America is, FREEDOM. If we cannot support our country in a war that was started by something as horrible as 9/11 then what have we become. George W. Bush may not have been the best president but he kept us safe. Our troops need us to support them. They are going on their own free will no one is forcing them, so as a nation we need to stand behind our troops. They have given so much for us we owe them that much. I recently attended Sean Hannity's freedom concert in Dallas and it really puts things in perspective to see the wounded soldiers. It makes you remember what got us in the war to begin with. I would rather fight the war in Iraq then have it fought on our soil. I think you all need to watch There She Stands by Michael W. Smith www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0wr8egTnYw&feature=related
Thank you once again for your time. God Bless America Land of the Free Because of the Brave. Thank you to all our troops.

This song is without a doubt controversial. I am a very strong christian and play drums for the high school praise band. However, I do NOT believe that same-sex marriage is so terrible. And because God so amazing, loving, and forgiving then wouldn't he forgive them? I mean love is love. It's as plain as that. You don't choose to be gay. I know a grown man who is gay, and he is literally one of the nicest, coolest, most normal guys I've ever met. He even is the head of the humane society of a city. Don't get me wrong, I'm christian, but it really bugs me when people talk smack against gays. I bet 90% of you don't know a single one.
I agree with the song mostly but gay marriage SHOULD be allowed!!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/30/09
for all you people who are talking crap about gay marriage you need to shut up and have a more open mind. Also you should know that in gods eyes all sins are equal wether its not listening to your parents, being gay or commiting murder they all look the same to our savior. those of you who say that gay marriage is wrong should get a life. God wants us to love others as we love our self. we should not me trying to run other peoples lives!!! If two men want to marry who are we to say they cant the government needs to step back and let us make our own chioces for our self. and as long as you ask god for his forgiveness he will forgive you whatever your sin maybe!!!
ok im a Christian and i believe this song. i believe that God put us on this earth to worchip Him and not to 'fool around' with people of hte same sex. and just take a look at our schools. that kid in the song turned to drugs because our country is falling apart because were more focused on what goin on in iraq than whats really goin on in america. the budget cuts were because all the money is goin to a war htat doesnt even matter. it makes no sense. and the high schools suck because they dont give us hte money to do anything about it. but all we need to do is pray to God that we will be able to get through this. dont take it out on Him.. its OUR fault not His
