It comes from a time when the Great Depression was not such a distant relative. I can remember when there were country singers who would get so worked up over a song, while they were performing, that they would sometimes express their great sadness by tearing and ripping their shirts off their bodies. Communicating such a feeling is not an easy task for the performer, yet Hank Williams was able to do it without tearing his shirt off. It has to be the yardstick against which all country tunes should be measured, and I'm not talking the crap which today they call "Country Music". Today's "Country Music" is nothing more than pop music with a twang. I'd like to go back to the days of Hank Sr., Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Cash, et al.
