It's Only A Paper Moon Lyrics
Artist(Band):Nat King Cole
say It is only a paper moon
sailing over a cardboard sea,
But it wouldn't be make believe
If you believed in me.
yes It is only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree,
But it wouldn't be make believe
If you believed in me.
Without your love,
It's a honky-tonk parade.
Without your love,
It's a melody played in a penny arcade.
It's a Barnum and Bailey world,
Just as phony as it can be,
But it wouldn't be make believe
If you believed in me.
~interlude~
Without your love,
It's a honky-tonk parade.
Without your love,
It's a melody played in a penny arcade.
It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be,
But it wouldn't be make believe
If you believed in me.

Review about It's Only A Paper Moon
Old Lyrics are Applicable to Today | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/9/2007The lyrics are so old that they are new. It talks about perspective and the importance of love. It talks about the world being like a circus or a parade. It's full of visuals like cardboard and folk art scenery. It brings images that bring other sights and sounds to mind like the circus and a parade. The lyrics stay with you - how fun! I hope all the songwriters out there take note! I like Ella Fitzgerald's singing this as well. Enjoy!
Staying true to the lyrics | Reviewer: sue mcandrew | 9/8/2007
Just about to present a paper to conference with some very prestigious speakers. I am presenting a paper on a person's dream as part of research data collection. The words of the song keep coming back to me and I want to underline the importance of mental health nursing being in believing what the person (patient) is telling you. Their story is crucial in understanding a person's emotional undestading of their world - hence it isn't make bel;ieve but only becomes that if you (the nurse, therapist) fails to acknowledge the reality for them. Not quite sure why I am e-mailing this but thought you might like to know of another way the lyrics can be put to good use.
Great song | Reviewer: JBlair | 1/2/2007
Such a light-hearted melody. It automatically makes you happy. Definitely a nod to happier days.
A classic singer/piano player singing a classic Arlen tune | Reviewer: donald bloom | 3/21/2005
Nat was the master of vocal articulation and played as tasty a piano as anyone in his day....Check him out "After Hours" where he plays with his classic pn, bas, guitar trio.....no drums needed!
