Jim Reeves' smooth, pop-flavored stylings helped expand
country's boundaries and keep the genre alive during the
years when the birth of rock 'n' roll seemed to signal the
death of Nashville. Jim recorded a brief 11 years, from
1953 until his death in a 1964 plane crash, yet his music
continued to chart into the 1980s, with several Top 10
posthumous hits.
Jim was born on a farm near Galloway, Texas, where he grew
up listening to country artists such as Jimmie Rodgers,
when he wasn't involved in his first love: baseball. He was
the first-string pitcher at the University of Texas playing
on an athletic scholarship More...

Review about Jim Reeves
Family Tradition | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Old Tige performed by Jim Reeves
This song has sort of become a new family tradition for us. My father memorized the song, in sort of a story tellying poem form, when he was 19 years old. I grew up listening to him recite it on road trips. I memorized it when I was 19 and will teach it to my children when they are that age as well. It's just a good story.
song theft? | Reviewer: Phillip McGee
------ About the song An Evening Prayer performed by Jim Reeves
If the "Anonymous" writer of 4/27/07 knows the original writer, Cliff Ferking who had this song stolen in the 40s. and you show the song written in 1911 are we talking about the 1840s? No wonder he's anonymous, he is very old and probably has forgotten his name!

------ About the song Where Do I Go From Here performed by Jim Reeves
As a child I sang along with this song everytime I heard it on the BBC Radio. Now I am a Christian Soloist and find myself searching for the Piano/Guitar music to go with these most spiritual words ever written.

------ About the song Where Do I Go From Here performed by Jim Reeves
I am 33 years old. I have listened to this song since I was 5 and know half of all his gospel songs. He is truly a remarkable singer. We do not need to know where we are going as long as we have the LORD at our side to lead the way.

------ About the song Beautiful Life performed by Jim Reeves
his songs made my dad a happy man till he passed on. after he death i filled the space he left with hate and angry which took 12 years of my life 12 years on huting people and doing wrong, i realy was out of control till i head one of his favourites JIM REEVES songs (GOD BE WITH YOU)
i realy head him speek to me through JIM. even whan i changed and whent to church no one realy wanted me close to them or their family so i keept playing that which gave me peace till i head him telling to worry less and that even the church Brothers and Folks will be forgoting soon like the brther in the AMEN CORNER(TROUBLE IN THE AMEN CORNER)just then i knew it was only a matter time so stayed close to my family mostly my mom since her paryer has been answered and i was finaly doing somthing with my life, she said the WOLF's of HELL could not cleam my SOUL. ti's been 4 years now i am a better man and people bring their children and love ones so i could give them a word of advice.
i may not be rich but i have something that makes me very happy that means a lot to me than being rich and above all a word from GOD every day through JIM REEVS now i respect my dad's memories (PRECIOUS MEMORIES)!!!.
An Evening Prayer | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song An Evening Prayer performed by Jim Reeves
This Hymn was written by C. Maude Battersby in 1911
If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive!
If I have uttered idle words or vain,
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I myself shall suffer through the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive!
If I have been perverse or hard, or cold,
If I have longed for shelter in Thy fold,
When Thou hast given me some fort to hold,
Dear Lord, forgive!
Forgive the sins I have confessed to Thee;
Forgive the secret sins I do not see;
O guide me, love me and my keeper be,
Dear Lord, Amen.

------ About the song Old Tige performed by Jim Reeves
I heard this song over the weekend- I was 19 when I last heard it and it still made me cry on Saturday. I've cried over losing dogs before and remembered each one as I listened to this song. No other country singer can do justice to this song like Jim did.
PRAYER AND CONFIDENCE | Reviewer: desmond snell
------ About the song Where Do I Go From Here performed by Jim Reeves
I think this is one of my favorites in all that is sung by Jim Reeves. I have heard it on tape several times and each time I hear it I listen to it twice, at least. This is a song asking god for peace and strenght. It is inspirational and prayerful.

Learned this song more than 30 years ago. Had not heard it in twenty+. Could not believe I could still recite the whole thing. Made a lasting impression for sure. Recommended for animal lovers everywhere. One of my all time favourites.
A Really Good Tear Jerker | Reviewer: DW
------ About the song Old Tige performed by Jim Reeves
I first heard this song many years ago. I had a dog named Lucky who had got in a fight and died in my arms. The next day we buried Lucky underneath a big shade tree. When we went in the house my dad who was a Jim Reeves fan, played me the song "Old Tige." Although I was 17 years old I cried like a baby over the loss of my friend. Lucky has now been gone 40 years and my dad died 25 years ago but every time I hear this song or read these lyrics it never fails to start the tears flowing once again.
Please Release Me | Reviewer: Ervin M. Harris Sr
------ About the song Please Release Me performed by Jim Reeves
The song Please Release Me is not the same; Ray Price and Jim Reeves lyrics do not agree. The first person I heard sing this song was Eddy Arnold the "Tennessee Plower Boy" and his version is somewhat different than Ray's and Jim's, so I really don't know which lyrics are correct. Snake

Sea of Heartbreak | Reviewer: Colin Baird
------ About the song Sea of a Heartbreak performed by Jim Reeves
This is a wonderful song, composed and recorded by Don Gibson. To my knowledge Jim Reeves never recorded this song, nor have I ever heard him sing it on any live performance. Jim did record one Don Gibson song, "I Can't Stop Loving You". This was recorded at Jim's final recording session in RCA Studio B Nashville. May I take this opportunity to thank you for such a wonderful webb site. Colin Baird
A very powerful song | Reviewer: deano
------ About the song Old Tige performed by Jim Reeves
I'm a mean old bastard who rarely cries about anything, but this song got me good. And I don't even like dogs that much!
The words are so real | Reviewer: Maddie Cos
------ About the song This World Is Not My Home performed by Jim Reeves
If you were to hear my Daddy sing a Jim Reeves song, you would swear Jim Reeves himself had just walked through the door. He was even given the chance to perform on Opportunity Knocks when he was in his early 20's as Jim Reeves. But he refused the chance, regreted not doing it ever since.
This was one of the many songs we'd hear echoing throughout our house. Along with "He'll have to go", "Distant Drums", "Just walk on by", "Have i told you lately that i love", "A fook such as i","Stand at your Window", and many more.
Sadly on November 5th 2005, this song was played at my Daddy's Funeral as he was carried out of the church. The words send a chill down my spine whenever I hear them.
I write this in Memory of My Dad, Billy Costello. While we keep playing songs by Jim Reeves or as my Dad would call him, Gentleman Jim,We can hear in the distance Daddy is still singing along.
The one and only country music singer whome i would crown him as the emperor of country music. | Reviewer: george jacob
