by Matthew Bivins PART ONE: SCHOOL Ward was the one with a scholarship. Ward is still the smartest member of the band. Ward also had a car in 10th grade and was the most popular geek that I knew. When we went to lunch in high school I would watch as Ward went from one side of the lunch area to the other, chatting with his friends as they followed him like little disciples. He had a blue jean jacket with "the Wall" emblazoned by hand (his) on the back. He had long hair and a winning smile. Ward was everyone's favorite, and I pretended to hate him just to be different until he came over to my house one day with a chessboard. Playing chess with Ward Williams made you cool. No one can deny that they are fabulous musicians, great performers, and just fun guys. But i think I hit the high point in my JLC life when I went to teh ATL concert on the Little Bobby Tour. Since then, no concert has come close to living up to their standards. I will not deny them that they are great musicians - and their musical style is always changing and evolving in ways that are sometimes hard to understand for the lay (like me). Overall, yes buy all their cds. But, in my opinion, if you go to one concert - you've gone to them all. I seriously believe that I have seen the band play the same conect 9 different occasions. they dont play covers, they repeat their playlist... they are great - but please - some variety would be great!! And often I feel like they are drastically moving away from their old fans - remember us? the ones on Opium? the ones that remember when Magazeine was released? ahwell.
