Four identical figures stand on stage, blasting out edgy
pop anthems with Teutonic flair and twisted outlook. This
is Ladytron – a quartet composed of Helen Marnie, Daniel
Hunt, Reuben Wu, and Mira Aroyo. They've taken the UK by
storm, toured extensively throughout Europe, and are now
prepared to bring their sound stateside with Light & Magic,
their newest release on Emperor Norton Records. Forming by
chance through meetings in bars and parks, they set out in
an unusual way, ignoring London to play their debut show in
a Paris bowling alley, and releasing their debut single,
"He Took Her to a Movie," in mid-1999. Strange European
dates followed in temporary spaces in east Berlin and to
frenzied electrokids in Barcelona, slowly building a
reputation as one of the mo More...

------ About the song Seventeen performed by Ladytron
Everyone is taking the lyrics far too literally this is LADYTRON were talking about... look at their other songs there is a lot of symbolism involved.
In short the song is about youth (females) being used and then discarded when they're older and their innocence has been depraved/taken from them... it's not specifically about the modeling industry, although modeling is an example.

I feel that this is about using girls. Like applying for porn, take a picture and tell you if they'll call you when your 21. Just how the world abuses you and how they want to get young naive people to use and throw out when they are done.
How asleep and blind people are to how they degrade themselves, others, and the environment around them with their every day attitudes. Worst part is- they are completely unaware.
Oh man, i heard this song while watching SMILEY FACE, with Anna Farris, and fell in love with it immediately. The lyrics are crazy and make no sense to me but this is a great song, especially when your just sittin at home, chillin.

i like the soulwax remix
the music makes it sound more sinister
and the drum beat at the start makes it sound like the idea, only being good enough at being 17, is being drummed into our heads

------ About the song Playgirl performed by Ladytron
I would bet that it's about a an aspiring model who is sleeping their way to higher positions.
The music video even shows a girl that appears to be an anorexic.
The lyrics mention a foreign coin and a question mark on a calendar. I'm almost certain that it's about a model. They travel like crazy (foreign coin on a telephone box) and their schedule is always changing (the question mark).

------ About the song Jet Age performed by Ladytron
This is such a good song and I have yet to figure out exactly what is going on in it...There is some crazy story about a man and woman that were apparently going out or something then they broke up. But that doesn't fit the rest of the lyrics...because it seems as if they are in fact the same person...I don't really know, any feedback?!

Not only model agencies and old men, it is the general attitude of life to the man specifically females. 17 is an age that you are not old, not child. 17 is an age that is in between and a return. After 17 you are supposed to take responsibilities (going to collage, leaving parents etc) and life gets harder. And after 21 you are count as an adult. So 17 is the only fun age that life gives to you, it takes a polaraid of yours and let you go into the hardship of life which takes all your funny part..

------ About the song Seventeen performed by Ladytron
On the surface this song may seem to be about modeling agencies and the desire of publishers to show youthful good health, but it also applies to dating. most men, particularly those of an older generation, seek younger mates because the girls in their age category are generally moms, or carry around so much emotional baggage it just depresses you to be around them.
oh my god...just a chaos is the good way of course. it's melodic but still chaotic. with out words...just clap, clap, clap ladytron. i want some of what they 're smoking.

I think can mean anything to anyone that can relate. With my past experiences it could mean someone younger dating someone older. When I started to grow up and mature, he stopped calling me. Then he was out with someone younger, like the next day. But I can also relate to the modeling. When I was about 15 or 16 I had auditions. I had it, but then I moved North and grew up and filled out. When I returned home the same woman who told me I had it, told me I didn't. Maybe I'm reading too much into this song. Hell, it's just cool.

------ About the song True Mathematics performed by Ladytron
For all of you who wonder what the lyrics mean - here is my translation:
The sun crosses their rainbow.
They are drawing figures in the sand; shining light.
They run to and fro across the city,
They peek here and there,
They put on their clothes quickly,
They don't attract any attention.
The sun puts them to sleep in the warm armchair.
They will count quietly to 601.
They run to and fro across the city,
They peek here and there,
They put on their clothes quickly,
They don't attract any attention.
The sun crosses their rainbow.
They are drawing figures in the sand; shining light.
They run to and fro across the city,
