The first album, "Level 42", was released in '81. It
captured the essence of the band in its purest form, a
smooth blend of instrumental jazz and funk. Shortly after
"The Early Tapes" were released, a collection of demos from
'80, so this is really their 1st album and "Level 42" their
2nd. These were the days before image consultants, sponsors
and large stageshows. A level 42 show in 1981/82 meant
muscleshirts, sweats and sneakers. It meant first and
foremost MUSIC.
Phil Gould was the drummer at that time, and provided a
slick, speedy jazz-funk rythm. His brother,Rowland Gould,
on guitar, took care of the rock edge in his solos and
funky grooves with his subtle rythm work. Excellent
showcases of this are "Starchild", the 2nd single from

------ About the song Man performed by Level 42
Seems like they see what everyone else sees. Man is the problem of man. So arrogant, so full of ourselves we ignore counsel when given, thinking we have all the answers; but to what has it lead? Hey, man sing the blues.

This is so very beautiful and says so much. Alongside 10cc's 'I'm not in Love' it must be ranked as one of the two best love songs ever written. Seeing this band this October (2008) and already looking forward to the event. Brilliant musicians.

------ About the song Leaving Me Now performed by Level 42
I grew up in the 80's and for me "Leaving Me Now" is definately one of the finest songs Level 42 have sung. Not only that, for me it's one of the best love songs of the 80's. I really miss Level 42...... what a band!!
I am Theresa Poling one of the Biggist Level 42 fans of the United States. I first saw their Music Video of Lessons in Love and ever since I love their Style of Music. I also every once in a while Play their Live at Wembley DVD. I hope they can come and play in the United States soon so I can jam with them.

What a wonderful tribute to one's father...If I had my own band, we'd "cover" this song...I'd also bet it would always be requested and be a fan favorite.

------ About the song Leaving Me Now performed by Level 42
Love is a ship, we all hope to steer
through troubled times, cross an oceans of fear
( I think it is the second verse) take a listen again
yeah about what hakalaha said umm it's because there's something about you baby so right I don't want to be without you here tonight. I really LOVE this song thatnks for submitting the lyrics.
Hi I just thought I would tell you that's 5th stanza it's not that there is something about you it's BECAUSE there's something about you and I don't want to be without you here tonight. Same thing about the last stanza it Because there's something about you.
This album is probably not better than RUNNING in the FAMILY or WORLD MACHINE but it certainly sticks to what LEVEL 42 fans expect from them.
I reckon the three songs than stand out in this album are: HEAVEN in my HANDS, TWO HEARTS COLLIDE, and: I don't KNOW WHY. In that order. And for those who enjoy MIKE LINDUP in the lead-singing role listen to: SILENCE.
Good piece of work from this band.

------ About the song The Sun Goes Down performed by Level 42
This song by level 42 is well put together using the main menu music from Sin City and has excellent rhythym. Its use of guitar beat and percussion makes the song extremely good. It should reach the top of the charts soon if it hasn't already.

Fire | Reviewer: Brian Nash
------ About the song Fire performed by Level 42
Fire whilst never released truly showed the magic and multi talents
of this group, they shine through in a timeless manner despite the
poor quality of this track.
This should be a must if ever the original members ever get back into
the studio, there were rumours of the original members getting
to-gether last year butone never knows where there is smoke-there may be
Fire.
