M.I.A. Lyrics - Avenged Sevenfold

Review The Song (175)

Staring at the carnage
praying that the sun would never rise
Living another day in disguise
These feelings can't be right
lend me your courage to stand up and fight
Ooh tonight

Ooooo...
Stand up and fight

The fighting rages on and on,
to challenge me you must be strong
I walk your land but don't belong,
two million soldiers can't be wrong

It's not fun but I've been here before
I'm far from home and I'm fighting your war
(Not the way I pictured this, I wanted better things)
Some are scared others killing for fun
I shot a mother right in front of her son
(Take this from my consciousness, and please erase my dreams)

Fight for honor, fight for your life
Pray to God that our side is right
Although we won, I still may lose
Until I make it home to you
I see our mothers filled with tears
grew up so fast where did those years go?
Memories won't let you cry
unless I don't return tonight

So many soldiers on the other side
I take their lives so they can't take mine
(Scared to make it out alive now murder's all I know)
Nobody tells me all the reasons we're here
I have my weapons so there's nothing to fear
(Another day, another life, but nothing real to show for)

Fight for honor, fight for your life
Pray to god that our side is right
Even though we won, I still may lose
Until I make it home to you
I see our mothers filled with tears
grew up so fast where did those years go?
Memories won't let you cry
unless I don't return tonight

Staring at the carnage, praying that the sun would never rise.
Living another day in disguise.
These feelings can't be right,
lend me your courage to stand up and fight.

Watching the death toll rise wondering how I'm alive.
Stranger's blood on my hands, shot all I can
There are no silent nights, watching your brothers all die
To destroy all their plans with no thought of me
(No thought of me)
No thought of me

Ohhhhh...

Walk the city lonely
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes
Don't forget that I was so young, but so scared
in the name of God and Country

Song Meaning | Reviewer: .. | 1/1/12

This song is written from the perspective of a young man who like others have said joined the marines without realizing how the decision would impact his life. And his confusion and regret when he comes back. He feels like a murderer even though the army is trying to justify his actions he cant. I never heard any pro war in this song or anti war.. Its just a single person who after coming home is confused, feels left out and alone. This is Avengeds most powerful song lyrically in my opinion.

To those who believe the A-bomb wasnt necessary | Reviewer: Andrew | 12/22/11

I invite you all to do at least five minutes of research into Operation Downfall, the planned invasion of Japan.
There's a high chance that millions of people would have been killed. The Japanese populace and military were fanatical and would sacrifice a dozen of their own to stop the allies from advancing even one step farther into their homeland. It would have been far worse than Okinawa. Not to mention they would have had seven A-bombs ready to drop on the defenders in the landing sectors just 48 hours before the actual landings. The baby-boom would have been a lot smaller and most of them would have three or more arms or legs. Also, the casualties for the firebombing of Tokyo were much higher(with some estimates going up into the millions, based off population density of affected areas.)The A-bombings, as horrible as they were, were the only solution that didn't involve millions of deaths for both troops and civilians. Given the extraordinary circumstances, they were worth it.

Whatever. This song is perfect. It's completely impartial with well thought-out lyrics that keep political implications out. Everything about it is just perfect.

its kind of sad. who cares if its pro whatever. to me, seems its about a young man who joins not fully understanding the weight of his decision. goes to war not knowing why, and when its over, feeling remorse for the lives hes taken for whatever reason the government decides to claim was the reason for them being there. love this song.

To Frazer: | Reviewer: Aaron | 9/28/11

The A bomb WAS justified. If they'd dropped it with no warning, I'd agree. Office workers shouldn't be killed for nothing. However, leaflets were dropped throughout the entire city before the bomb was dropped. Anybody who stayed in the city was there on their own accord, knowing they could die.

To the people that felt the atomic bomb was necessary, | Reviewer: Frazer | 8/10/11

I've read through the comments, and I read that the a bomb was justified because soldiers had seen their friends dying. How do you think that all the civilians of japan felt who's relatives were killed, with no body to bury and pay respects to. Soldiers are paid to carry a gun and shoot at people whilst they shoot back, and I respect them, but an office worker isn't paid to be killed on the spot, neither are children in the park. Just throwing that thought out there.

Also this is a great song :D

It's neither pro war or anti war. Much like most of us in the military. I serve with the Marines and i can tell you from my time in places that i see the look on there face and they see the look on mine. We are 19-22 year old young men that have the thousand yard stare. We got that stare doing things that no man should ever have needed to do and no man should ever be wanting to jump up and down to say that he has done. I have, with my Marines fought. I will on my next deployment too. I have lost good friends that will haunt my memory till I die. I am sorry, i am rambling. Anyway, the point is, this song says what is to be said at the least about war...

GreatSong | Reviewer: GreatSong | 7/14/11

This is non the less anti war song

Forgive me for my crimes, don't forget that I was so young, fought so scared in the name of God and Country.
I hope every soldier feels this way. For the soldiers who doesn't feel that way, they have another line:
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight he is obviously talking about himself (that soldier) so it can't be patriotic or pro war song

War Wife | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/12/10

Great song! My husband is a Marine, and has seen things he shouldnt have. A lot of what this song has prtrayed, it made me cry the first time i heard it and gives me goosebumps every time i hear it.
He's been there twice, and very true, those dreams still haunt him even now that he's home safe and sound. I suport our troops, not the war. I can't say how great this song is. So poetic and breath taking.
"Walk the city lonely
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes;don't forget that I was so young
Fought so scared in the name of God and Country" -A7X
so true

Good Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/10/10

I honestly don't think this is pro-war or anti-war. Some parts I think its pro, others I think its anti. I just think its a song about the soldiers trying to cope with it. Some don't care cause they've been there before, some found it to not be what they expected, some are doing it for fun, some are doing it cause they're scared, etc.

Hmmmm.. | Reviewer: Kelsey | 5/16/10

Okay. So I read that this particular song was in fact a song about war. A couple of the guys in the band had friends who were in the war in iraq. They wanted listeners to have a perspective on what a soliders p.o.v was in war.

The information could be wrong, but it sounds pretty acurate to me :)

Whatever the song is about, it still a great one.

Why so many people hating on eachother ???

a couple of things | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/2/10

hardly anyone gets it. the song is about war, but it condems it, not support it. i support those poor people led to war by those fucking war-hungry biggots. hope they all abandon this foolish crusade and get home safely.

p.s. fuck you fucking homophobes!!! probably gay yourself but too scared to admit it

:D | Reviewer: BlahBlah | 4/18/10

Gahness! I love this song...so touching. Love A7X <3 <3 R.I.P Jimmy

And can you guys below please stfu? Honestly this is supposed to be your opinion of the song not of homosexual people. Go do something productive with your time. :/
