Matt Nathanson was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA on March 28, 1973. Since picking up a guitar at the age of 6, Matt knew he wanted to be a musician. His strong, sincere lyrics and inspired musicianship have led many people to become die-hard fans after only a listen. His charm and sincerity in person, as well as his energetic and often humorous live shows have also endeared many a listener to his unique blend of acoustic folk and rock 'n' roll attitude. Raised in Lexington, MA, he attended Proctor Academy in Andover, NH as a highschooler, and later moved to beautiful Claremont, CA to attend Pitzer College. For instance,the line stating, "All the wrong things on fire" could symbolize the fact that as the couple lays in the dark, they are worrying about things that are unimportant. This could be anything from feeling too young, worrying about how the ceremony will go, etc. "Even at my best, I wanna let go" could stand for letting go of all responsibilities and worries and finding himself lost in love with his bride. When he says "Thought I'd lost you, I gave you away" could refer to a mistake the groom had made in the past by ending their relationship only to realize he made a huge mistake and she took him back. Likewise, saying he is jealous of how the moon moves the waves could represent the fact that the moon moves the waves every single night, and thinking back to his past mistake of abandoning her, he feels terrible. Saying that he wants to be somebody else and wants to thicken his skin could simply mean that he wishes to be somebody less nervous/anxious about the wedding. There isn't one song by this man that I don't like, even his covers for other songs are amazing! He is also unbelieveably funny and down to earth. I went to his concert recently with my cousin and we were both blown away. I was already a fan before the concert but I walked away from that concert feeling as if I was his biggest fan. I can honestly say that was one of the greatest nights of my life and the greatest concert ever! After the concert Matt came out and signed autographs and took pictures with his fans and of course my cousin and I were some of the first few to get in line for that. The way i see it is that he has had his heart broken. The worse pain you can feel in life is loving someone with all you have and then losing them. After that for awhile you feel impervious to all other pain like nothing else in the world can hurt you as much as that. So by him talking about wanting to feel a car crash, a bomb drop, the world stop, i think hes trying to find something else that will make him feel some sort of comparable pain again, and that he will keep wanting to feel those things untill hes "satisfied" and when he finally is, he knows hes ready to move on.
