Words by Chappeau de Roquemaure
Translated by John S. Dwight
Oh holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
This is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night,
Oh night divine
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord
Oh praise His name forever
His power, and glory evermore proclaim
His power, and glory evermore proclaim
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh holy night,
Oh night divine

Review about Oh Holy Night O Holy Night | Reviewer: Erin | 10/20/2004
I sang this song in my own church growing up, and now I love this song, the beautiful melody takes on a new richness. This Christmas, the meaning of the song seems to come alive especially now that my cousin, Annemarie is a mother to my baby cousin, Lauren. I have become connected to the story of the most holy night through my own humanity.
