Yes take that imagery of a gold fish, gulping oxygen and he doesn't want to find her floating upside down at the top of the bowl. But consider this Consider the image of a girl smoking pot... to get away from reality. I'm not advocating it its just what i see... play along. So this girl is smoking, and swallowing this heavy air. And floating around mentally. But there is something wrong. She is so lonely and feels like instead of floating she's spiraling down. And it pains him. But the beauty is that he knows that if he dives down into her deep emotions he will find the treasure for his heart. There is something that he loves about this girl so much that he would dive the depths to rescue her, and bring her to a forrest where instead of drowning in the endless abyss of an ocean she can walk with raindrops falling on her. And then going back to the pot refrence.. (sorry but its what i think) When he comes around and he's there with her, he doesn't want to see her miserable and running to smoke from her bowl, and float down into the endless abyss. Its brilliant imagery if you ask me... But that's the beauty of imagery its different for many. Seeing as most alternative/indie/emo artists mask true feelings through representation and imagery of something else, you'll find it evident in more songs than just this. Stocker | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/11/2008 @ becky : you need to start looking at different layers of the song. water could symbolize a vice, such as drinking. which girls have a shell? many do. it's called hypocrisy. i could rant on, i'm just shedding light on what i believe the song to be. a man comparing a woman to a precious goldfish. he wants to cleanse her of her problems and show her the better things in life. or the dude was just too stoned and wrote about a goldfish. it's up to them to write songs, to inspire us. if your inspiration takes you to think this song is about cows shooting lazers, then so be it. don't tell someone they are wrong.
