Chris O'Connor, driving force behind the Primitive Radio
Gods, took an unlikely path to a major label recording
contract. When his first band, the I-Rails, broke up in
frustration at the vagaries of the music industry in 1991
after four indie releases, O'Connor opted to finish their
partially completed fifth record on his own. A few years
later he shopped the end product -- a curious, catchy
combination of old-fashioned rock 'n roll, samples and
hip-hop production values he called Rocket -- around to
various labels to no response. Frustrated himself, O'Connor
gave up on music and became an air traffic controller.
The turning point came a year later when he came across an
unopened box of the Rocket CD in a closet while preparing
to move. O'Connor decided to make a More...
I, like most here, have been waiting forever and ever to figure out who the hell sings this crazy euphoric song that send the chills up and down my spine. Definitely something I heard a ton during my young teenage years that I knew was important, but never really bothered to listen to the lyric too closely. It was just the way it made me feel that really counted. Thanks a whole bunch. Much appreciated.
the first time i heard this song i couldn't help but to love this song very much, it has a certain tone to it very powerful. i can only love to hear this with someone i can sit next to and enjoy to listen with.
Just happened to hear the music from this song on Sunday on the radio. My girlfriend and I almost couldn't wait to get back home since the cd was in one of my cd folders in the trunk of my car and we were in her car coming back from a trip this past wkend. I had to pull my "Rocket" cd out of mothballs! It was so great to hear it again that I played it on repeat for at least 30 minutes.
I was standing in the market where I grew up and i heard this song and it brought me back to a place i havent been in a while. remembering old friends growing up and this song was popular in my teen years and being where i was all the goodtimes and that song brought me to that place again
I love this song's poetic feel. The part where the singer sings "I've been downhearted baby,/I've been downhearted baby,/Ever since the day we met/Ever since the day we met" Chills go down my spine.
I have been try to find this group and this song for at least the last ten years. All I could remember of the groups name was Radio. Finally I find on the Internet and you guys gave me the lyrics. As I remember the video was as haunting as the song.
The words take you to a realm best left to poets and madmen. Can't for the life of me remember which I am. Mr. King's soul blood spills to the floor, we listen to it dripping into he lost places we no longer care to visit. I've been down hearted baby...yeah man we know
i used to hear it played on wber in rochester, ny. it really took me to another realm. i am delighted to have access again to it. i had no idea it was on the cable guy soundtract, never saw the movie
thanks
It's hard to find songs that really say something new. There's probably a few songs like this out there, but not a lot. Life, "big questions," depression, stream-of-consciousness... Even the title is part of the story, rather than a repeat of the lyrical hook. There's a lot of artistry here.
i dont think anyone understands how long ive been looking for the name of this group and the name of this song so i could download it on my ipod, ive asked literally 30 people and no one knew what it was, but i thank you for telling me
That song is indeed fascinating .The musical accompaniment was also quite exquisite . The recordings of the inimitable, earnest voice of B.B. King, which was intermittently interspersed with the main melody, was quite sonorous and gave it an extra sense of elan .
In an era largely beset by droning so-called alternative songs filled with putrid , weird ambivalence and kitchy refrains , that song by Primitive Radio Gods was a shining gem of beauty amidst the muck and mire !
I have not heard this song in YEARS!!! But it is one of my fav songs!!!
