Protest The Hero is an extremely talented punk/metal act
from Sudbury, Ontario. They have been together since they
were 13 years old and now, five years later, they have done
more than most bands twice their age could dream of. PTH
have released two records on Canadian punk indie label
'Underground Operations' and have toured relentlessly while
battling their high-school schedule (man that sucks),
forfeiting their summers and weekends to make a name for
themselves on the road. Their music easily embodies the
intricacies of Iron Maiden, advanced complexities of modern
day screamo, and the melodic sense and song structure of
all your favourite metal anthems. Protest The Hero's
reissue of their debut record, "A Calculated Use Of Sound"

------ About the song No Stars Over Bethlehem performed by Protest The Hero
this song is the opening song to the album keiza and it starts the journey of the life of a girl named keiza in prison and tells it from three perspectives each perspective is three different people the first (being the first three songs) is the priest that is there to see through her conviction and see up to her death. The second is the guard that is watching her and eventually leads up to being one of the firesquad members and then the last set is keiza herself telling us about her story and why she is there and what not..
this album is a masterpiece its been pieced together so articulatly, i've read all the lyrics for the album and all of them stick with what they said the albums about every piece is amazing and a masterpiece in themselves. The way he screams and then bust out the full harmonics in his voice is amazing not every screamer can do that..well done guys can't wait for the next :)
man i love protest the hero. there not like normal scremo type bands that speack of random depression with random words and beats. the words make sence are are awsome using metephors we dont use alot like in this song lead locus and being a crusader begging for a crusade to die. and other songs like bloodmeat and Sequine throne (ik i probly spelled that one wrong and i hope i dont get a angry mob lol)those 2 were the first i heard and ive been in lov wit them since. i love all there songs and the guitar is stunning and with the bass and drums its amazing. and with his AMAZING voice its the icing on the best cake in the world!! PROTEST THE HERO ROCKS !!!!

------ About the song Blindfolds Aside performed by Protest The Hero
This song is a part from a story that is told in the whole album. for this part it is telling the thoughts that one or all of the excutioners and the emotional struggles that he is going through.
The girl he refers to is Kezia (the prisoner that the cd is about). At the end (if you've heard the acoustic outro which is usually cut out) You'll hear a girl singing along with the lead singer.
I'm not sure if this is what they meant but the whole song is comparing the sins and emotions that both are experiencing. That is what i beleive this song is about. They're sending a message that the executioner is no better than the prisoner sometimes.
All in all this is a song that is beautifully crafted melodically, rythmically, and lyrically.

Protest The Hero are so amazing, and this song just proves it, the slow piano introduction to the song and then the vocals and guitar make this song so unique, there arent many other bands similar to this. i love the concept of this album, Kezia as well, its so...haha indescribable.

------ About the song Blindfolds Aside performed by Protest The Hero
This song is possibly the best song ever created. Not only is it deep and meaningful with it's lyrics, but it is also phenomenal melodically and rhythmically. Protest The Hero are masters of their art. They can include deep lyrics and intense melody's while simultaneously keeping the song catchy and smooth enough to be enjoyed by just about anyone who listens to it. Blindfolds aside is a 10 out of 10......HANDS DOWN!

If you are going to copy wikipedia, at least make it word for word. Rody Walker, the lead singer of Protest is the one who labeled it a situationist requiem.
Anyway,
The lyrics in this song are top notch. I felt the instruments weren't as good as they are in some of PtH's other work, but the vocals are some of their best, and show what really sets them apart from other music in their genre.

This song is one of the deepest songs there ever was and will be. the whole Kezia CD is deep. Protest the hero is the most brutaly melodic bands out there. Blindfolds aside is one of those songs that you either love or hate, 9 times out of 10 you love it
"for anyone to actually understand what this song is about you have to understand the what the entire Kezia cd is about. the cd is a story about a this girl Kezia being killed. the first 3 songs are about the prison priest, the next 3 are about the prison guard/gunman, the next 3 are about Kezia herself, and the last song is like a conclusion."
you're way of it's the story of a girl going to be executed for a crime that is never mentioned(a metaphor for the sins of man) the first three songs are about the prison priest and him believing if Kezia is Executed for the sins of man god will return and save them.
the next 3 is from the view of the prison guard/executioner and how not only is he the one to execute this girl who has done nothing wrong, but he has to battle his own faith.
the last 3 is about kezia the first two songs ("She Who Mars the Skin of Gods" and "Turn Soonest to the Sea") are more about her as a person and the last song song "the Divine Suicide of K" are the moments leading up to her execution...ending in a a big cliff hanger because the last song "A Plateful of Our Dead" is just a recap not really a conclusion.

------ About the song Just Defy performed by Protest The Hero
i was hoping it wud include the lyrics when his voice lowers, something like, "im so sick i started seeing things, and i started to behave" idk its rly hard to find out
All those saying the lyrics are meaningless probably don't know a thing about the album this wonderful track's taken from. "Kezia" is essentially a concept album, the elegy of a young woman about to be executed for a crime she's not guilty of. The story is chronicled in the perspective of three characters: The Prison Priest, The Prison Guard/Gunman, and Kezia herself. Each character is designated a section containing three songs, with a single retrospective finale concluding the album. "Turn soonest to the sea" is told by Kezia, just before her suicide (not a spoiler, it's right in the title of the following track) as she analyzes the way women have been used abused and labeled by our society, and long await (and deserve) "their rib back", a biblic metaphor here meaning "their role, justice, worth".

------ About the song A Plateful Of Our Dead performed by Protest The Hero
Kezia is essentially a concept album, labeled a "situationist requiem" by the bassist Arif Mirabdolbaghi. It is the elegy of a young woman after whom the album is titled. The story is chronicled in the perspective of three characters: The Prison Priest, The Prison Guard/Gunman, and Kezia herself. Each character is designated a section containing three songs, with a single retrospective finale concluding the album. The three characters represent an aspect of the bandmembers themselves, endowing artistic fingerprints to a deeply personal album.
The story (which is admitted to be heavily influenced by the works of Dostoevsky ) of Kezia was conceived by bassist Arif Mirabdolbaghi when the band members were in grade eleven (2002-2003), and recording was finished in 2005 when they were at the ages of eighteen and nineteen.
Just a little bit of knowledge for those wondering if the songs on this album, or the album itself had any perticular meaning.
Kezia, my darling, please never forget this world's got the substance of a frozen summer silhouette,"
Said my mother through lips that were cracked with love and toil
before she added, "the warmest of blankets is six feet of soil"
absolutely LOVE that part... they should repeat that the WHOLE song lol

To all those people who say "if you don't understand this song you are stupid and should die"...Well you should die for being an arrogant rotten douche. Instead of acting all high and mighty and believing you KNOW what this song is truly about...Why not enlighten those that are not as privilege to bask in such grace as yours...and tell them what the song means instead of keeping it like some fucking sacred secret.

You're right...that wasn't much of a review
But besides that, i am only posting a review on this song because it is the last song on the KEZIA album, so bascially this is a review for the entire album as a whole.. Protest owns! Amazing lyrics amazing vocal & instrumental work, the album in entirity -KEZIA- is a world, its the God, its an enemy, a friend and a philosophy, a textbook, so to speak, and a work of art. And their "world" blows my mind. Good job boys!
P.S. all this along with -THE HOLLY SPRINGS DISASTER- rulzz!!!
