Rose Lyrics
Artist(Band):A Perfect Circle
Don't disturb the Beast,
The tempermental Goat,
The Snail,
while he's feeding on the Rose
Stay frozen, compromise
What I will I am
Bend around the wind
Silently thrown about again
I'm treading so soft and lightly
Compromising my will
I am
I am, I will
So no longer will I
Lay down, play dead
Play your doe
In the headlights locked down
And terrified
Your deer in the headlights
Shut down and horrified when
Push comes to pull comes to shove
Comes to step around this
Self-destructive dance
That never would've ended 'til
I rose,
I roared aloud here
I will, I am
I am, I will
So no longer will I
Lay down, play dead,
Play this
Kneel down
Gun-shy martyr, pitiful
I rose, I roared
I will, I am

Review about Rose
Hmm... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/15/2008Sounds like someone is submitting to some, seemingly unstoppable, force. Could be a bully through a smaller child's eyes. Could just as well be a drug habit, or a woman's relationship with an abusive spouse.
Song starts out with the POV person submitting because they are afraid to cross the line with whatever it is they are dealing with. They have to tread lightly, bend around the wind, or stay frozen to avoid disrupting their particular 'Beast', or risk being thrown around again. They go so far as to compromise who they are so that their situation doesn't worsen.
That is until they decide to take a stand, to revolt against what's holding them down. To stand up and roar back in their oppressor's face, because they know that if they let the cycle continue, they will end up being destroyed. They make it very clear they will never again kneel pitifully before someone or something that doesn't deserve that from them. Could be the kid standing up to the bully, and succeeding. Could be the overcoming of the drug habit. Could be the woman leaving the abusive spouse, for good.
But that's the beauty of Maynard's work, isn't it? It's not centered on one specific scenario, so anyone who is dealing with a similar situation can gain from it.
Bully? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/1/2008
I think this song could be about a kid that's getting bullied and after a while he decides not to take it and fights back. Then discovers that the bully is as scared of him now as he was of the bully.
good song | Reviewer: LINK | 1/13/2008
love this song, so harmonized, the song seems to be telling a situation where maynard just tries his best not to get some beast angry, till to a certain point he decides it should all change and he will no longer let himself be treatened by this
