Sarah Harmer's new album, All of Our Names, could just as
easily be called Short Stories from Quaker Valley. That's
because each of Harmer's slice-of-life songs, largely
written at her rural home near Kingston, Ontario, boasts a
rich narrative. Whether it's a wintry walk in the
countryside ("Pendulums"), a romantic crush ("Almost") or a
thoughtful reflection on human potential ("Dandelions in
Bullet Holes"), the celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter
magnifies those experiences into captivating stories, full

Review about Sarah Harmer
Introspective, good tune construction, beautiful effort | Reviewer: max
------ About the album All Of Our Names performed by Sarah Harmer
I wasn't too thrilled with Harmer's earlier effort, "You Were Here". I found the melodies too rambling and dull, and frankly, the whole thing was just self-indulgent poetry.
But All of Our Names is a brilliant effort, combining a good mix of everyday-portrait songs, personal brooding, and up-tempo rock beats with some passion behind them. All the way around, a great songwriting effort that still preserves lyrical and poetic integrity. Her band knows how to play elegant singer/songwriter stuff like this with finesse and beauty.
If you like Kathleen Edwards or Jackson Browne, you'll love this.
