Semi-Charmed Life Lyrics

Review The Song (11)Print the Lyrics
I'm packed and I'm holding
I'm smiling, she living, she golden
She lives for me
Says she lives for me
Ovation
her own motivation
She comes round and she goes down on me
And I make her smile
It's like a drug for you
Do ever what you want to do
Coming over you
Keep on smiling,
What we go through
One stop to the rhythm that divides you
And I speak to you like the chorus to the verse
Chop another line like a coda with a curse
I come on like a freak show takes the stage
We give them the games she play,

She said
I want something else

To get me through this
Semi-charmed kind of life (Baby, baby)
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say
Good-bye

The sky it was gold, it was rose
I was taking tips of it to my nose
And I wish I could get back there
Some place back there
Smiling in the pictures you would take
Doing crystal meth
Will lift you up until you break
It won't stop
I won't come down,
I keep stock
With a tick-tock rhythm
A bump for the drop
And then I bumped up
I took the hit that I was given
Then I bumped again
And then I bumped again
I said
How do I get back there to
The place where I fell asleep inside you?
How do I get myself back to
The place where you said

I want something else
To get me through this
Semi-charmed kind of life (Baby, baby)
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say
Good-bye

I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling
An earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And the four right chords can make me cry
When I'm with you I feel like I could die
And that would be all right
All right

And when the plane came in
She said she was crashing
The velvet it rips
In the city
We tripped
On the urge to feel alive
But now I'm struggling to survive
Those days you were wearing that velvet dress
You're the priestess, I must confess
Those little red panties
They pass the test
Slides up around the belly
Face down on the mattress
One
And you hold me
And we're broken

Still it's all that I want to do, just a little now
Feel myself, head made of the ground
I'm scared, I'm not coming down, no no
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile
But nothing is all right
All right

I want something else
To get me through this
Life. Baby
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say
Good-bye (4x)

The sky it was gold, it was rose
I was takin' sips of it to my nose
And I wish I could get there
someplace, back there
In the place we use to start our lives

I want something else

Review about Semi-Charmed Life

Great Song (hard to remember the lyrics!!!!!) | Reviewer: Aaron | 6/17/09

The song's great popularity and the frequency of which it was played on the radio proves how little people actually listen to the song... But, even though it was about a man losing his girl to meth/cocaine, it was beautifully written and 3eb did a very nice job of incorporating a misleading, catchy, positive tune into it (lol?). I can play and sing this song, but it's hard to remember the lyrics! i really like this song and once i'm able to remember the lyrics, you can count on me covering it in my next gig at the Red Frog!!!

wow | Reviewer: johnny k | 6/12/09

people really over analyze songs. The song is about oral sex while high on meth...seriously, nothing more than that. This is from an interview with there guitarist..

"It was about a band member’s experience during Lollapalooza. The idea is that a guy goes to Lollapalooza, the one where Dinosaur Jr. played, and he took some crystal meth and had an amazing time, and it led to an oral sex situation with his girlfriend. The song speaks for itself. It’s definitely a true experience."

not what you might think | Reviewer: semi-charmed? | 12/23/08

This song reminds me of my first love dying. That's when it was popular on the radio. The meth references are interesting, and potentially relevant, but not necessary. Who does *not* feel that they live a 'semi charmed' life? Who is not broken, by one thing or another (one person or another)? I find the song poignant, a reach out beyond the quotidian existence of everyday life, a yearning to eclipse the 'semi-charmed' post-modern lives that we lead. A challenge. What is that something else? Drug addict, lost soul, mourner and sage, do we not ask ourselves this question every day? If we don't, shouldn't we?

It's sort of like modern art: capturing a feeling in a song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/21/08

It's about that feeling/emotion/mental state that everyone wants to have and nobody wants to ruin and everybody seems to be striving for as best as they possibly can. When you have it, all is right and you just want more. When you don't have it, nothing is alright, and you just want to get back to how you used to be. This is the foundation of human sexual love and accomplishment and it feels like you can almost transcend your mundane humanness, which you're grateful for in the first place, but still you are only semi-charmed to be this lucky. And you just want more. It all comes down to an addiction to feelings.

It's about a girl too! | Reviewer: logan | 4/14/08

Ya everyone who knows 3eb knows about the meth references especially in semi-charmed life, even someone who doesn't know the band can figure it out. The song is about stephen's regret that his life is ruled by drugs and how he wants room in his life for the girl he is talking about.I love this band I have seen them live twice. the way the meaningful lyrics are meshed with the infectious music creates a perfect sound.Taking meth addict lyrics and putting it with acustic C, D and G is brillant

I love this song. The lyrics are fucking beautiful! Whenever I listen to this song I feel a connection. I love how the music is upbeat and catchy but the lyrics are somewhat bleak and sad. My favorite line:

She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile
But nothing is all right
All right

Question | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/24/07

I knew it was about meth, but I thought it was a guy thinking about doing drugs and how good it felt, yet knowing that he lost his girlfriend to it and "wanted something else to get [him] through this life" like he regretted his addiction....?? Maybe I'm just an optimist.

mmm | Reviewer: hippos_in_tutus@hotmail.com | 12/3/07

while this song is about the use of meth i would like to point out that not ALL 3EB songs revolve around the use of meth. this song is also actually a response to a song called Walk On The Wild Side by Velvet Underground/Lou Reed

rofl Asa | Reviewer: brandyn.baldwin@gmail.com | 11/14/07

all of third eye blind's songs revolve around being addicted to meth before the use of the drug was well known. this song is about his chick overdosing on coke and meth and dying.... hence "i'm scared, but i'm not cmoin down, no no no, and i won't run for my life, but she's got her jaws now locked down in a smile, but nothing is alright, alright"
