It hasn't always been this way
I remember brighter days
Before the dark ones came
Stole my mind
Wrapped my soul in shame
Now I live among the dead
Fighting voices in my head
Hoping someone hears me crying in the night
And carries me away
Chorus:
Set me free of the chains holding me
Is anybody out there hearing me?
Set me free
Morning breaks another day
Finds me crying in the rain
All alone with my demons I am
Who is this man that comes my way?
The dark ones shriek
They scream His name
Is this the One they say will set the captives free?
Jesus, rescue me
Chorus
As the God man passes by
He looks straight through my eyes
The darkness cannot hide
Do you want to be free?
Lift your chains
I hold the key
All power Heav'n and earth belong to me
(Repeat)

I have more recently grown to love this song. My youth group drama team is doing an amazing and powerful skit today for the Easter Sunday service. If you are interested in doing a great skit to a great song, check it out on Tangle under what else but "Set Me Free". There are a couple of good versions, and for ours, we combined them all together. I really encourage you to take a step in ministering to others through drama, even if you've never done drama before. This is a wonderful skit to put on for Easter, and it will truely be a blessing to all.
God bless,
Allyssa

This song is absolutely amazing. It has really helped me. My best friend passed away recently, and i heard this song, it described her perfectly, and it gives me reassurance that she has been set free, that Jesus took her and set her free from all of her troubles. She was only 17, she suffered from many issues(more than we can fathom) those 17 years, and now she is free.
Digging through my music collection for music for a new Alternative Worship Team that will be working a new Alt Service at my church, I knew my trusty Casting Crowns CD would hold some real gems...How had I missed this song? I am simply in tears at the ultimate message and powerful delivery this song provides...This is a conversion song, plain and simple. Utterly amazing how the Spirit moves in song...Thank you Casting Crowns for such an amazingly appropriate song, and thank you Jesus because every word of it is truth.
The power of Christ... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/29/08
We always hear about the timidity, mercy, and lovingkindness of our Lord, but He's also just and righteous, and is God in human form. Don't ever forget that. He describes Himself in Revelation 1:18. "I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." He can and will save us from the darknesses of the world! This song shows this well.
Truth | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/6/08
I appreciate the rawness and vulnerability of these type of Christian bands. There are lots of songs, books, and messages taught about who/what God is all about. This song captures the strenght, truth, and awesomeness of Gods ability to heal us. It makes you really feal his love and acceptance unconditionally.
This is a truly awesome song by my favorite Christian group that has a powerful message. It really sums up in three words one of the major truths about our belief as Christians: we are free. I pray that, as children of God, we don't forget that.
Music any rock fan can love | Reviewer: Mick Trezise | 11/23/07
I'm not overly religious but if anyone is going to bring people into it, it is contemporary acts like this group. Their sound is superb, the songs are written without force feeding religion and allow people to make their own mind up. I've heard music fans, religious fans, art fans and all others praise this bunch and it's all well-deserved. Stop forcing it as Christian rock because that's pigeon-holing a great band and may prevent more people listening due to silly bias against a Christian band. They are simply a great act who aren't afraid to say what they feel. Let them. If more people accept them for the music then the belief will follow too for some.
Love it!
The Demoniac in the Tombs | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/1/07
One of my friends told me someone had written a song from the perspective of the demoniac in the tombs whom Jesus set free by casting the demons into the swine. Is this the song? Either way, it is a powerful song. I thank the Lord for the service you give to the body of Christ.
