Sonata Arctica was born in 1996 on the edge of the world, in northern Finish town of Kemi. The very first incarnation of the band was named Tricky Beans. As Tricky Beans, the group produced three demos (Friend till the End, Agre Pamppers and PeaceMaker) and played twice in Jyrki S鋒k鰏 irkus. After some personnel changes in 1997, the outfit changed their name to Tricky Means. Let it be know to the Metal community that initially the band experimented in musical styles far from heavy metal. Turning the page in 1999, Tricky Means recorded new demo "FullMoon" in Tico Tico Studios located in their hometown, Kemi. At the time of recording the line-up consisted of: Tony (vocals/keys), Jani (guitars), Tommy (drums), and Janne (bass). This new demo was the first exploration More... When interpreting lyrics, one shouldn't always focus overmuch on the title of the song. And this song certainly does more than "mention" friendship. I would say that the song is mourning an old friendship. One might almost call it an elegy, though it mourns a lost idea, or feeling, rather than the person. And yes, while it is true that we love our friends, it's not the same sort of love that you have for your lover. Love isn't a single, simple feeling, it's a lot more complicated than that. Could you say that you love your family in the exact same way that you love your friends? Or in the same way that you love a lover? Of course not, it's more complicated than that. And that last type is the most complicated of all. It's something that most humans search for, strive for, reach for. And sometimes think we have found it, only to find that those feelings aren't true. That's the "sham and a lie" of the song, the love that wasn't true. To say that ALL of what the speaker and this other person had was a "sham and a lie" seems to me a gross misinterpretation. Just because you're in a steady relationship with someone doesn't mean it isn't a friendship. You must be close friends with someone in order to love them, anyhow. I also wanted to comment on something 'paul' said: Are you basing all girls off of an experience you had with one girl? Seriously, you speak as if the male gender always thinks before acting. Whether or not someone makes a mistake that ruins a relationship is unrelated to gender. So the mother raise Caleb in secret, but she's not the caring mother Caleb want's to belive she is. She hates Caleb and his father, who she raised Caleb to be a portrait of. She then manipulates Caleb into killing his father. And all this is the background story to the story told in The End Of This Chapter, Don't Say A Word and Juliet. I think it's awesome and I've really enjoyed following it. It's interesting how it's been spread out over so many years. But I suppose it's ended with Juliet and his death.
