Intro
The next train to Adelaide will depart from platform one, stopping all stations
Verse 1– Pressure
Early morn, train station, aching from the arthritis,
This war veteran knows what a hard time is,
He needs his pension, dementia and half blind is,
The reason he rides the train with no car license,
So he boards with an expired ticket has a swipe,
Gets a fine cos the change he got don’t add up right,
We’re taking about a man who never lived a lavish life,
Caught up in the age of computer chips and satellites,
A lovely lady boards looking tired and half awake,
He smiles, she’s reminds him of his wife that past away,
She says something as she walks right past his way,
His old hearing aid don’t last quite half the day,
Some young gentlemen alive with their laughter,
Approach the old timer and put a knife to his heart to,
Explain that money or bloods the price of their barter,
To a man whose friends probably died for their fathers.

Chorus
Whatever it takes can justify,
Whatever ends we make, whatever the price,
To the end of a life, it’s just an observation,
So take a ride we’re stopping all stations.

Verse 2 – Pressure
It’s been a long night the suns lifting on a cold,
Morning but she’s drugged and drunk tripping on her stroll,
On the way home, she’s done with stripping on a pole,
But she can’t pay for her son living on the dole,
Jumps a train puts on her gloves she’s wearing black,
Being watched by some old mug she’s glaring back,
She’s on edge and got the bug from sharing smack,
So she says, “Hey, what the fuck you staring at??
He smiles, an unsteady hand rubs on his dome,
She takes a seat, a messy band of ruffs board alone,
To the digger with a machete at his lungs and he’s prone,
He can barely stand but ready to stand up for his own,
She tries to help him she doesn’t choose to flee the car,
And catches a blow with enough bruise to leave a scar,
She starts fainting, the rooms moving and seeing stars,
Aint it amazing how courageous human beings are?

Chorus
Whatever it takes can justify,
Whatever ends we make, whatever the price,
To the end of a life, it’s just an observation,
So take a ride we’re stopping all stations.

Verse 3 – Pressure
He knows nothing but toil, strife and hard yakka,
Pissed at the world for playing wife in a slammer,
This man was never given a life on a damn platter,
So he jumps a train with knife and bandanna,
Boys at his back, sleazy, hardened and far,
From giving a fuck, an easy target his mark,
He sees an old man and says “See we’ll part with your hard,
Earned cash or rest in peace we can start with your heart.?
Some girl steps not afraid she’s gonna cop it sweet,
And gets decked before she made it even on her feet,
The old man leaped to her aid and to his horror he’d,
Thrusted his chest into the blade of his robber s piece,
He grabbed the wallet, dropped the knife as he fled the car,
Concerned about the loss of life he’d never went this far,
What’s done is done, he’d got the prize and he’d spent his half,
Of two dollars in change and a pension card.

Review about Stopping all Stations

Awesome anaylsis | Reviewer: John | 10/26/2008

What do you think the song is about? - (does it tell a narrative? is it descriptive?)
Stopping All Stations is written as a narrative song about people who catch the train each day by themselves; it follows their journeys on the train and their lives. The first person that you are introduced to is an old man who fought in two wars and is blind. When another lady boards the train he is reminded by his old wife whom passed away. The second individual is a young boy who has lived a hard life, he approaches the old man and puts a knife to his heart. The final person is a poor single mother who is finding life hard; she has a number of unfortunate events happen to her that day. Towards the end of the song, the young boy attacks a girl, but quickly the sweeps the assailant off of his feet.
Throughout the song there is a lot of describing and everything which occurs is shown in a descriptive way.

What is/are the theme(s)? - (issues and ideas the song deals with eg: lost love)
The themes which intensify throughout the song are; crimes and the way that life can be extremely hard, no matter how much you have achieved. This is shown because the old man is a war veteran, but he still has trouble dealing with his wives death and also the young boy who is approaching people with a knife.

Persona – who is telling the story of the song? Through whose eyes do we see the characters/events of the song unfold?
The song is told by a man who views what everyone on the train deals with. He retells everyone problems, for example when he is confronted with a knife he says “Approach the old timer and put a knife to his heart”

The HOW of the song

Mood – what is the dominant mood or emotion of the song? Does the mood change?
The mood of this song is serious, bitter and forceful because they are telling a story about an extremely serious issue, of a man getting stabbed. The mood is consistent throughout the song, although it does change in parts of the song, when there is happiness; this is when the bully is stopped.

Tone – what do you think is the lyricist’s (songwriters) attitude towards the subject of the song and its audience?
The songwriter is recounting how he sees events on the train. He feels that the terrible behavior of the young children robbing old men is terrible. He wants to tell the truth, and definitely does not stop; he says what he sees and does not mind.

Language – do you think the words well chosen and vivid? What phrases stand out for you?
The words are mostly simple but sometimes it is complicated, there is a lot of descriptive language for instance “She starts fainting, the rooms moving and seeing stars” every line is full of descriptive language, which helps to tell the story.
The words are definitely well chosen, every line tells a new story or another part of someone’s life.

The line which stands out is “Caught up in the age of computer chips and satellites” this is when they are describing the old man, he has been in two wars, and believes that the children are not the same anymore.

I live in Canada, so not many people hear aus ish up here. There was a conversation between some people I know about how sad and meaningful of a song "dance with the devil" by immortal technique is. Yeah sure, if you live in the ghetto in NY or Detroit. But unless you live a life like that, it doesn't really apply to you.

Which is why I love this song. It's not drug dealers dieing, it's an old man. It's just so much closer to the avarage persons life. Expecially how it was the first time the robber had killed someone, and it was for two bucks and a pention card.

heaps cool | Reviewer: big fan | 12/30/2007

i just realised after a few times that its all one story

the girl sees him getting mugged, and runs in, she get decked and knocked out. the old man leaps forward to help her but thrusts into the knife and dies

Awesome | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/2007

One of the best Hoods songs by far. I love it. Even the restrung version is a ripper.
So much better than the American hiphop, Hilltops along with all other Aus Hiphop will out live the American shit anyday.
Adelaide represent.

ripper song. very sad. I'd like to think it's fiction but this sh1t appears on the news every week.

Grass roots | Reviewer: Adelaidian | 8/18/2007

The Hoods are the only hip hop I've ever liked and this song is a good example of why. It's filled with elements we've all experienced, combined into a situation that would be familiar to most of us. It's written with honesty, heart and a common humanity. It beat the soul-less, vacant American crap about guns, bling and bitches any day. Keep making as proud boys!
