Sulfur Lyrics - Slipknot
Review The Song (25)
My Guilt and My Shame always sell me short - always feel the same
And My Face and My Soul always wear me thin - always under control
But the longest hours you'll have in your life
Are the ones you sit through to know if you're right
So I'll wait, but I pray that I'm wrong
Because I think I know what's going on
So Let Me Get This Straight... the only will is my own
I do whatever I want and stay alone
All my decisions make it untouchable and tainted
I'm gonna suffer for the rest of my life
But I will always find a way to survive
I'm not a failure, but I know what it's like
I can take it or leave it... or die
STAY - You don't always know where you stand
'Til you know that you won't run away
There's something inside me that feels
Like Breathing in Sulfur...
My Life is undone - and I'm a sinner to most but a sage to some
And my Gods are Untrue - I'm probably wrong, but I'm better than you
And the longest hours I've had in my life
Were the ones I went through to know I was right
So I'm safe, but I'm a little outside
I'm gonna laugh when I'm buried alive
STAY - You don't always know where you stand
'Til you know that you won't run away
There's something inside me that feels
Like Breathing in Sulfur...
LIKE BREATHING IN SULFUR (x2)
STAY - You don't always know where you stand
'Til you know that you won't run away
There's something inside me that feels
Like Breathing in Sulfur...

Another Way To Look At It | Reviewer: KevinC | 7/15/11
Okay, let me start by stating the obvious... This song is AWESOME! And now, to address the Satanic/Not Satanic issue... I'm 100% sure that if Corey Taylor made a reference to being willing to go through Hell to figure out if he's right, (which is a greatly possible meaning) that DOESN'T make him satanic... I mean, maybe he's like me and millions of other, a Christian that's independent enough to question? Really, the only person who can know for sure is Corey himself... So here's something for my fellow Christians to consider before you call Slipknot satanic... "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with that judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." ST Matthew 7:1-2
I know where I stand | Reviewer: TheRealDarkFox13 | 5/26/11
for one i was looking for the meaning behind this entire song and instead found a religious agrument (give it a rest about the damn religion flame wars damnit!). for two Slipknot is neither christian nor satanic, cuz it's just metal. for three r.i.p. paul gray. for four (lol) i give this song a three thumbs up due to birth defect.
WTF! | Reviewer: Jason | 2/6/11
who gives a shit whether they r satanic or christian or what fucking ever, they make gr8 music. and its no secret that christians r the biggest ney sayers in the world, almost my whole family r christians & all i can say is where the fuck is god when someones life gets fucked up. ive seen ppl praying and begging but no God is nowhere when sum1 gets killed, raped and tortured. open ur eyes, god does not exist

another awesome song from an awesome band. corey is a fucking genius. i wish i could see this fucking band playing live. but it seems like a dream that never comes true 4 me. Stay (sic) maggots. R.I.P. Paul Gray.

Basically, i think what the whole sulfur thing means is a reference to hell (not intentionally trying to feed trolls should that add anything.) Sulfur is often associated with the smell of Volcanoes, more specifically the smell of magma. Hell, obviously, is conjectured to have pools of magma. So, when he says "something inside me feels like breathing in sulfur", he means that he is willing to go through hell to figure out if he is right.
Not going to try to analyze anything else in the song, but that just clicked with me when i read the lyrics in detail and wondered what it meant.
Seriously? | Reviewer: L | 5/18/10
Seriously, I'm a Christian, but a huge fan of Slipknot & Slayer.
And btw, the singer of Slayer is a Christian himself and he sings more 'satanic' songs than Slipknot,
So don't moan that Slipknot is so satanic, because I saw them live, and nothing satanic about them, just awesome.
