TALIB KWELI LYRICS

  Lyrics - Talib Kweli Lyrics

 :: Biography
 :: Albums

Few hip-hop artists have made as profound an impact in as
short a time as Talib Kweli. After releasing a few revered
singles with partner DJ Hi-Tek, Kweli teamed with fellow
New Yorker Mos Def for 1998's Mos Def And Talib Kweli Are
Black Star, one of the best albums of the '90s. In addition
to introducing the world to two of the most talented
rappers of their generation, the album—along with
likeminded recordings from The Coup and Lauryn Hill—played
a major part in bringing a sense of spirituality, social
conscience, and moral balance back to hip-hop. Since Black
Star's release, Kweli has been busy, purchasing a bookstore
with Def, traveling to Cuba as part of the Cuban Rap
Festival, performing in countless benefit concerts, and
helping to organize the Hip Hop For More...

    Review about Talib Kweli

It's whatever. | Reviewer: Brendan Malone
------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

It's no big deal, but i don't think either of you guys who think you now what you're talking about really know what hip-hop is. What I got from reading your comments is that hip-hop is underground and rap is mainstream which isn't true. Or, that hip-hop is creative and original and rap is all about hoes, drugs, and ice, which isn't true. Talib Kweli, like almost every MC, has songs in both hip hop and rap genres. It's whatever though, you guys can keep talking about stuff you don't know about if you want.

------ About the song Get By performed by Talib Kweli

    Hey emidio

The song samples Nina Simone's 'sinnerman'. That's her voice wailing at the start of the tune too.

If you listen to Nina Simone's version, you'll see that Talib Kweli has reworked the sample so brilliantly that it is actually a new melody. That is one of the things that amazes me about this song!

    Fucking Idiot | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

To the guy who doesn't understand the difference between rap and hip hop!

To get started. You are correct with what you said "that's what rap is you idiot"

But you are totally wrong when it comes to hip hop. The difference being hip hop is original and rap is not. Rap steal lyrics from other songs and adds there own pimps, hoes, drugs and alcohol lyrics afterwards.

Talib is on the fence of hip hop and rap or in other words is in the process of becoming main stream, some people refer to this as becoming a sell out but it all about the money right? Talib is the shit and will be for a long time, he is making his dollars now and will lay low for a while to get out of mainstream and then come back with some kick ass shit just like he has before. So before you go screaming "so b 4 yall open your mouth know what hip hop is." YOU should know what hip hop is! By the way, I love how you could spell lyricist but not "fucken", idiot!

------ About the song The Proud performed by Talib Kweli

If your a Cop in the States, you better listen carefully to this song/poem so u can realise just how big of a hypocrite you realy are. Hats off to Kweli and his crew. We got love for you in South Africa baby.

    The Connection | Reviewer: Marrow
------ About the song For Women performed by Talib Kweli

"For Women" is a poignant connection between and among the generations. If you don't believe that, read "Ain't I a Woman," by Sojourner Truth - Langston Hughes is in there too "...Her back is strong.../Strong enough to take all the pain..."/. This lyric comes on with full force and is an urgent reminder that we have "work to do" to bond with our young women so that they don't have to succumb to the "..complications that get you first... .

    The Truth | Reviewer: ISK
------ About the song The Truth performed by Talib Kweli

This song solidified hip hop for me when i was growing up. this is a true testament to quality hip hop, lyrically and on the beat.

Phara: " The discovery of these things and all are well-hidden
But when you in denial of self it is forbidden, that's the truth"

Common: "Let the truth be told from young souls that become old
From days spent in the jungle, where must one go
To find it, time is real, we can't rewind it
Out of everybody I met, who told the truth? Time did"

Talib: "And in the end, our names is on the lips of dying men
If ever crushed in the earth, we always rise again
When the words of lying men sound lush like the sound of a violin
The truth is there, it's just the heart you gotta find it in"

all of that has been and will continue to be mad inspirational to me for a very long time ..i won't even metion the beauty of the beat because its acclaim is of equal power..

    Black motivation.

Thanks man for puting South Africa on the world stage because I am live in South Africa and to also put out a special thanks to Jean Grae for rep'n SA Kayelitsha.

------ About the song Black Girl Pain performed by Talib Kweli

I am only 13 years old, but I have an amazing voice. My boyfriend and I live in a majorly white community(not together) with some of our black friends. I sang the hook of this song for our talent show. I also rapped the female part. We ended up winning the talent show.
This song speaks to me in so many ways. It baisically says "Black girls, you have been through so much, You have so much more to endure. You have to be tough, don't be pulled in by the influence that we aren't good enough. You be proud of what and where you came from." There's so much more this song says to me-" Look at Big Momma-96 years old, living in the original slave cabin from the 'times' TODAY, her own grandmother forced over here, she endured, and her daughter endured, and the same process for 4 generations. This is the 5th generation, so lets keep it going. Show them they brought us over here, so we're going to show them 'we are equal, and we can do so much as them'". I listen to this song every day to say, I know what I am going to do today- Live in the "BLACK GIRL PAIN"

What's the fuss about? | Reviewer: Eric
------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

Okay, he shoulda given cred to Ben Kweller. But being a Kweller fan, I think it's pretty cool that he is being sampled. Kweller and Kweli are both the real deal. They could both be more successful if they sold out but they didn't.

Ben Kweller who? | Reviewer: LA
------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

Ben Kweller did the chorus... not the song. the chorus was sung by a girl not Talib. talib is amazing. listen to his other songs he's the of the most creative MCs.
this whole Lauryn thing is so sad. She's truly a Queen.

Ben Kweller Sample | Reviewer: nah?
------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

Yeah the chorus was used without permission, but thats not Kweli, thats the producer who made the beat who sampled In Other Words.

------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

Every time I hear this song I almost cry. I didn't even kno what the lyrics were about until recently when I decided to look them up because I love the song so much. Talib is very sincere about this subject. You realize this when you hear his voice so beautifully expressed with every lyric.Talib is very creative and respectful and thoughtful and this song diserves so much respect. =]

------ About the song Ms. Hill performed by Talib Kweli

I first was introduced to Lauryn Hill in Sister act, fell in love with her voice. Then went online listened to her interviews and perspecives and then fell in love with her. I respect her and what she has done. This song is amazing and shows how much Mr.Hill is respected not only by the writer but by everyone that listens to the song. We love you Lauryn and Respect you.

    Kenyan Hiphop | Reviewer: Wincy
------ About the song Africa Dream performed by Talib Kweli

Hey Talib. Good lyrics man.Seems Kenyan Hiphop is letting go off the ancestral possesion. We've always been building on a fast growing true hip hop in Kenya but as a rapper i feel the whole concept is changing since the hallo-baloon of crunk this sides. Through those kind of songs the media has socialised us into accepting artificially or rather superficial way of thinking and many hip hop artists too have been swayed into aping this flawsless crunk shit. This whole ideals of imitating false perfection has realy spoilt our national I.D. I just hope soon the youth hear will realise whats happenning and unless they realise such songs like Africa Dream they will be shocked to know how many of the black people in America yearn to come back to Africa to find and thrive within their original african values. Thanks man & be good.
