The brightest star of the Finnish rock scene, the soprano singer Tarja Turunen has in a short time become one of the most well-known Finnish faces in the world of music. Turunen, who was born in the city of Kitee, Finland, started her musical studies at the age of six, and moved to study classical singing at the age 18 at the Sibelius Academy of Kuopio city. At the same time Tarja's classmate Tuomas Holopainen was starting his acoustical project, and invited Turunen to join the band. Tarja said yes to the invitation, and thus Nightwish was born. The band's first demo-tape was enough to get them a recording deal with Spinefarm Records. Tarja has done what many artists have tried, but few have succeeded: covering a popular song, and creating a version of a quality comparable to the original. Dont get me wrong the vid. is pretty good, its just I dont think Tarja looks as nice with blond or copper-redish hair, but other than that I thought it was sweet. The new nightwish singer is well lets just call her "different" (thats me tryin to be nice). But on a slightly more serious note, lets hope an open letter isnt up and coming in her near future, otherwise the last bit of respect I still have for the band (as a whole) will all vanish. Not bad, not bad | Reviewer: Anonymous ------ About the album My Winter Storm performed by Tarja I just got this album for Christmas and I must admit, Tarja's done herself some goo justice after her days in Nightwish. Some of the songs feel like she never left the band. Thankfully, she's gone with the classical / metal music, which suited her voice in the first place, and still does. My favourite songs have to be "I Walk Alone", "Lost Northern Star", "My Little Phoenix" and "Damned And Divine".
