The band was formed in the summer of 1992 by Luke Haines.
Luke Haines (vocals, guitar and writer to all Auteurs
songs) was born in Surrey in southern England for about 29
years ago. When he was 15 he started playing in a band and
has since played in some different bands, but the most
famous band (before The Auteurs) he played in was The
Servants which he played in during the 80s. But Luke wanted
to form his own band. He recruited his girlfriend,
bass-player Alice Readman (who also played bass on the last
Servants album) and Glenn Collins, drummer.

They played some gigs in London and they were by many
compared to T-Rex and David Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust
era. A demo made NME impressed and they later got to play a
"NME-gig". The Auteurs signed to Hut Records in More...
