The Diary Of Jane Lyrics - Breaking Benjamin

Review The Song (37)

If I had to
I would put myself right beside you
So let me ask
Would you like that?
Would you like that?

And I don't mind
If you say this love is the last time
So now I'll ask
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

Something's getting in the way
Something's just about to break
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane
So tell me how it should be

Try to find out what makes you tick
As I lie down
Sore and sick
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

There's a fine line,between love and hate
And I don't mind
[If you say this love is the last time](this line is from the acoustic version)
Just let me say that I like that
I like that

Something's getting in the way
Something's just about to break
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane
As I burn another page
As I look the other way
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane
So tell me how it should be

Desperate, I will crawl
Waiting for so long
No love, there is no love
Die for anyone
What have I become

Something's getting in the way
Something's just about to break
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane
As I burn another page
As I look the other way
I still try to find my place
In the diary of Jane

what I think | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/8/12

His girlfriend died and he finds her diary, he looks through it but nothing's written about him. He's still looking for the page where she wrote about him. He may be talking about how crazed and angry he's become from trying to find the page. I think he also holds some resentment to her, but loves her obsessively so he'll keep looking desperately for the part where she writes about him.

my opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/23/12

This song is about a man that is obsessed with a woman that clealry doesn't love him back so he desperately tries to get her attention but eventually realizes his obsession and tries to forget her but he's completely unable to do that

My point of veiw. | Reviewer: Evan Shayz | 11/8/11

I agree with most here, I think it's about a man loving a woman to the point of obsession (hatred maybe aswell), Im only Thirteen years of age, and frankly IDGAF what most people think, it's still a good song.

True.... | Reviewer: Lauren | 10/17/11

I do agree that there is more to it. But who really knows besides ben? He could've told the band something if not anything. But what if it's artificial or he's not telling alll ofit? That's the fun of it. If we know the purpose and meaning of the song by being told, why review? The music would lose its touch and have no real meaning to people. Having your own view makes it more entertainig. A lot of reviews could be similar but never the same.

I agree. | Reviewer: Lauren | 10/16/11

It does appear there is more to it. But who besides ben knows the entire story? Ben might not have told the rest of the band all of it, if not some of it. What he could have told them could very well be artificial. I'm 11 and i might not write songs, but songs can be similar to writing or drawing. No one really knows your complete purpose. And even if they do, they probably a) don't understand b) add on their own part and forget some of the true purpose or c) they just don't believe you and don't care. But not knowing is the fun of the reviews. Everyone has their own interpretation, and some are similar but never exactly the same.

Armande and sorry | Reviewer: Lauren | 10/17/11

Sorry if there's another post by me like this. I forgot the ones i sent in this morning. So, armande is a fool. Music is a piece of my life. And you know what i hate? People who don't get music and think they are superior and decide that everyone posting is a child. Maybe i am, but my inteligence is obviously superior. I'm only 11 and i know what music is. My definition is one word. Life. It's life for me. For some it's expression, a tool for calming down, or some who simply see it as entertainment. That's only a piece of what it is. It's an assortment of things, but it's never just entertainment. People like you armande, just want attention or want to be an instagator. You should learn respect. Your interpretation of respect is shitty. Mine doesn't piss people off or annoy people. So learn some cause you just got told by an 11 year old! Get a life or live life at the lowest level posible.

Hm | Reviewer: Nasty Mister Monket | 10/8/11

I agree with most of the reviews here, it seems from the lyrics a man loves a girl to the point of obsession, and this love is not mutual or unaccepted. However, in the music video, you see Benjamin putting a rose into a diary which he closes and leaves on top of Jane's grave.
Thinking there's more to this

Maybe | Reviewer: Dye | 9/7/11

I think this is about a guy, who loves a girl very much, even kinda obsessed with her. But she doesnt love him back, or she does, but they are always fight with each other for some reason(Something's getting in the way).
They are not OK with that situation, they tried to break up, but always came back, because they love each other and still want their relationship to work somehow. But it is probably impossible, that is why he is so sad and angry

As I burn another page
As I look the other way
I still try to find my place
In the diary of Jane

So.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/29/10

Here's a theory guys.. So Guy A loves Girl and they are probably dating or sth but Girl either doesn't love him or is in love with someone else.. Just look at the lyrics here.. :
Something's getting in the way

Something's just about to break
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane

The first to lines are for Guy B probably.. And the third line is the doubt of Guy A that Girl loves him..?!

Hmm.... Well, :) | Reviewer: Matt Finzel | 5/12/10

I totally disagree with Armande because a song can represent someone, even if the writer did not intend it for that purpose. Another reason I disagree with Armande is because this song, in my opinion, is about a diary infact... I mean, just look at the lyrics... "As I burn another page" This women has obviously died or moved away, then the man finds her diary and is sitting by the fireplace reading it. He is, again in my opinion, looking for a place he was mentioned in the diary, to figure out if this women actually loved him. The man is obviously jealous... "Something is getting in the way" "Do you like that, do you like that?" ... it's all in the lyrics and what your heart makes out of it.

As for my opinion on the song, I love the melody of the guitar and vocals. The words don't really relate to me, but they speak to me and connect in a sort of... malevolent way.

Amazing ! | Reviewer: Andrea | 4/18/10

This is kind of song that says more than words can ever do.First time I heard it,I almost started to cry.Somehow I can feel it. I've been listenig this song two months without stoping. My frieds started to call me Jane and some of them still do. xD This song is special to me and it's the best. All I can say. :D

the truth | Reviewer: wes111111777 | 11/26/09

yes your interpretation is your own meaning and don't let anyone take that away but the truth of the song is he spent so much time trying to enter into someone's life he gave his life to them... a nobody... for nothing...someone who didn't love him back...he died from "anyone" and not "someone" and he shows his mistakes as a "monster". it's a warning. don't do the same thing he did. a wise man learns from his mistakes, a wiser man learns from others :) peace.

Awesome song! | Reviewer: B3RS3RK | 10/7/09

I agree with most of you, this song is awesome. Kenny did a mistake to judge people 'cause maybe he doesn't know that music could have an effect on human feelings. Anyway everyone has a way to "interpret" (I hope is the right word) a song, personally it reminds me of a girl I still love and another example is when I listen to "Blow Me Away", in someway it charges me up.
To everybody that loves this song here's the link of my AMV:

It's not advertising but I just want you to enjoy the song and the video, I'll just hope you like it. BTW the last BB Album is awesome even if the lyrics are about sadness and death, but it still rock, if you like BB just get it now you won't be disappointed. Happy listening XD

Confused...I think I am Jane | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/8/09

So A man I really like, but I am shy shared this beatiful song with me and sung it to me. I never heard it before, but I think he may like me...but I am really blind to notice when men like me...What should Jane do, sing this song back to him???

To Armande, The One Who Doesn't Seem to Understand the Concept of Writing | Reviewer: Brianna A. | 6/1/09

This song can be however a person feels to interpret it, and if you don't like that, then leave the person alone. I'm sure, you hypocrite, that you've said the same thing about something before so don't even try to say that you hate when people do it. You don't exactly know Ben either, so how the hell do you know anyway? Writers write for everyone, themselves, friends, family, and anyone who finds meaning in his/her words. This song is a symbol to anyone who feels the same. If Ken feels that it defines a bit of who he is than you should not judge his opinion on the matter.
I love this song. It makes my heart sigh and ache. I don't need to be Jane or Ben to feel the same way. As long as Breaking Benjamin keeps making music I'll keep listening, because they are a great band and Ben's voice is like an angel's :D
