Where do I start?
I'll start at the beginning when I first discovered them. A breezy spring day in my friend's car, driving through South Portland, Maine. I found them in the bottom of a Bull Moose grab-bag. I'll never forget their music. They hit the listener with power-pop songs following in the footsteps of the best New Wave-era rock bands. They have a punk edge that grabs you and pulls you in.
They are a six part band from Seattle; including Ben Clark [lead vocals,] Scotty Rickard [guitar,] Nate Mooter [bass and vocals,] Eric Howk [guitar,] Mike Loggins [drums,] and Jacob Hoffman [keyboards and vocals]. In a recent interview, front man Ben made a list of his Top 10 favorite songs ever [found in yahoo music bio.] And they all refer to their last names as Lashes, so don't get confused.

10. "Maneater" - Hall & Oates
Jacob Lashes really wanted this song to be on our list so I put it at number ten. He's probably going to be pissed. All I can remember is that it goes, "Whoa here she comes!" I think it's about every girl we've ever dated.

9. "It's Now or Never" - Elvis Presley
This is the best song to sing to a girl you want to make out with. Nate Lashes sang this at a karaoke bar in the middle of the desert on Halloween and cowboy girls in slutty costumes came up all night trying to make him the new father of their children, who were sleeping in a station wagon outside.

8. "This Will Be Our Year" - The Zombies
This song is more romantic in two minutes than all of Leonardo's characters put together. I put it on every mix tape I've ever made for a girl. One day it will work.

7. "Toxic" - Britney Spears
I know what you are thinking right now: "Oh he thinks he's gonna be clever and ironic by slipping some teen pop song on the list. Yuck." Well I have two answers for you: a.) yes, I am clever, and b.) Public Enemy could have done this song and it would have been a hit. It's just that perfect.

6. "Alex Chilton" - The Replacements
A song about loving a song by Big Star. That's like pizza and cheeseburgers all wrapped into one.

5. "Strychnine" - The Sonics
Even the people who invented punk rock would tell you that this '60s Tacoma, WA band invented it first. Plus it's about drinking poison. Totally tough.

4. "The KKK Took My Baby Away" - The Ramones
What do you do when a member of your band that is supposed to be "like" a brother and just "happens" to hate Jews steals your girl? You fucking turn it into a chorus catchier than bird flu. Fred Durst and Wes Borland, please take note.

3. "The Power of Love" - Huey Lewis & the News
Did you know that Huey Lewis won a lawsuit against Ray Parker Jr. for writing credit of the "Ghostbusters" theme because it ripped off "I Want a New Drug"? Well it's true. What does this song have to do with that? Well, this song is better than those two songs combined. For rillah.

2. "Theme From Saved by the Bell" - Saved by the Bell
You think I'm joking? I challenge you, find me someone under 30 who cannot sing you this song in full. You can't do it. This song is the only reason young white people recognize Chuck Berry on the radio. They hear "Johnny B. Goode" and start singing, "When I wake up in the morning, and the alarm gives out a warning, I don't think I'll ever make it on time...."

1. "We Are the World" - U.S.A. for Africa
Not only is this the best song ever written, it also completely ended hunger. And that, my friends, is something the Beatles have still yet to do.

Love,
Ben! on behalf of the Lashes

I freaking love this band to death!!!!
They're amazing.
You should most def. find their stuff,
whether it's on iTunes, Blubster, or in the bottom of a Bull Moose grab bag. [p.s. I also found Peter Gallagher in there too, so be forewarned.]

Always,
Danielle <3
