The Warmth Lyrics - Incubus

Review The Song (40)

I'd like to close my eyes, go numb
but there's a cold wind coming from
the top of the highest high-rise today.
It's not a breeze 'cause it blows hard.
Yes and it wants me to discard the humanity I know,
watch the warmth blow away.

So don't let the world bring you down.
Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold.
Remember why you came and while you're alive
experience the warmth before you grow old.

So do you think I should adhere to that pressing new frontier?
And leave in my wake a trail of fear?
Or should I hold my head up high
and throw a wrench in spokes by
leaving the air behind me clear?

So don't let the world bring you down.

Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold.
Remember why you came and while you're alive
experience the warmth before you grow old.

Before you grow old.
Where did it go? (x4)

One of Incubus' best... | Reviewer: Trippety Doo-da | 8/31/13

This song is simply saying that while it can feel easier to "go numb", turn ice cold to people and life in general, it's a nicer and "a breath of fresh air" feeling to embrace "the warmth" when you put yourself out there. The ol smile and see what happens trick...just a longer version of that saying, really...

Let the song contribute in you, any way, every way it can. | Reviewer: ChrisVon | 6/12/13

This song inspires me to keep letting people inside my heart, even when I stand a chance to get hurt. When people get hurt they tend to close up their hearts and become cold, surrounded by walls.. It is easy to lose faith in humanity, and thats exactly where the irony of the song is.. The people who hurt other people most, is the people who's hearts are closed and cold. Somewhere a change needs to happen.

It doesn't mean we need to be stupid and let anyone in, it's good to be cautious, and its even more important to be careful who to open the gates for, and who not, who is worthy of coming in and who not.. Either way, making mistakes and standing up, makes you smarter, and wiser.. Till finally it will be much easier process to see who's worthy to come inside or not. Friction causes warmth. Rip the song apart and make it your own.

Love is recieved only by open hearts, we should rather go against what the world does, and teaches us to be true. In a place where fear is the focus, love will always be missed. A place without love, behind walls, is the most lonely place in the world. Surrounded by many but nobody close enough to keep you sane, warm, alive.

From Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Meaning | Reviewer: Hammer, Meat XL | 12/1/11

Its funny because everyone has a different meaning to the song. Your opinions are actually all correct and stop trying to figure out "why" and go with the flow, you'll be stuck in the past when everyone is moving forward.

Drugs | Reviewer: Faygo | 10/5/11

This song is about getting over addiction.
"I'd like to close my eyes, go numb"

"So do you think I should adhere to that pressing new frontier?
And leave in my wake a trail of fear?
Or should I hold my head up high
and throw a wrench in spokes by
leaving the air behind me clear?"

Should he do drugs and live a life of fear or should he not do it and prove that he's not an addict. Not mess up like people think he will, and not have a past he'll regret.

The Warmth and Meaning | Reviewer: B Boyed

I lol'd at it.

Anyway, I do agree with everyone who said the song is about finding the "warmth" or positive side of people and of just being alive in general.

The song does have some truth to it, not everyone here is that fucked up and cold, but it's still not enough to counter all of the people who are. Who knows though maybe I'll experience some warmth before I grow old. I won't get my hopes up though.

The Meaning of Life | Reviewer: Tangerine | 4/2/10

This song is the meaning of life. Plain and simple. I can't think of another song like this one. I think it's saying not to only see the bad. Some people only see the negative things in life and they allow that negativity to consume them. There is good out there. There is warmth out there. You just have to let it in and allow yourself to feel it no matter how bad things may seem.

bad days motivation | Reviewer: a young woman yet | 12/18/09

For me it means: don't fill your life with depression or bad karma. if you are depressed, you see everything with other eyes. for me it tells me to see the world different. experience the warmth and don't think everathing's cold and humanity failes everywhere. That's my interpretation and it doesn't care if it's true or false - it motivates me to a new view and i'm thankful.

Meaning of WARMTH from the words of the band | Reviewer: Moses | 12/10/09

Is about caring, experiencing the warmth sensation only found thru caring and helping WARMTH that pushing and going forward and thinking about your selfs only and the things you want to do,and material things will not make you feel such.

All the readings of this song fail to appreciate the humor of the text. Hearing the near-reggae bass and drum work for the stanzas and the out-of-this-world sound effects of the Dj and guitarist, the listener immediately thinks the song is seriously about human misery -- and it is but it is the human misery borne out of peeing oneself. In this song, the vocalist addresses a young man, laughed at as his pants darken in public, a person who pees himself constantly and is embarrassed by it. The song's text is saying just enjoy that warmth (the warmth of urine as it streams down the leg) while he can, before he grows old, senile, peeing himself and not even realizing it.

this song is not global warming | Reviewer: zach s | 8/12/09

this song is about living life to its fullest and doing everything you really wanted to do not letting anything stop you, to experience the undying pleasures of live as we know it before our time here is up. everyone who reads this needs to go do what this song is telling you to do, live life for once before you get too old to do it

piggy back off chad | Reviewer: mustafa | 8/6/09

I think Chad's right. He mentions the cold wind coming from the highest high-rise today and that it's not a breeze. This cold wind--globalization a.k.a. corporate America a.k.a. GREED--is attempting to get a hold of us. So experience the warmth, the love, and humanity.... before it's too late

wow | Reviewer: pinky | 6/23/09

This song speaks to me, I was just left by someone who I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with so they could play house with another woman and screwed me over royally in the process, it says its ok not everyone is like her there are people like you who are genuinely good and warm who won't use you then throw you away.

How I see it. =) | Reviewer: Patrick | 6/17/09

I see the "Warmth" as You or Me and most of the time people don't take the time to experience others and figure out who they really are so you say to someone Hey..there are some fucked up people out there..but not all of us are total asswads come hang out with me you'll feel better thats just my take on it. =)

different view | Reviewer: lis | 6/1/09

i think the song is about control urseft, at the beginning describes a human feeling in a epic way, like he's getting angry but he tries to calm down feeling the warmth. the second part he make some questions to himself asking if this new feeling should go into, if he should leave the weakness win.

Empty | Reviewer: Chad | 5/15/09

There is so much I want to say, but i'll get to the point. After reading the reviews and listening to this song over and over, I have come to sort of a familiar, yet un acted upon epiphany. I have spent my last 4 years in bars chasing women, instead of working on my life. People who I thought were friends are cold individuals and yea they are fucked up. I'm better than that. Got to stay up. Got to move forward, and put that cold wind behind me. Reach and fight for the life, the love, the happiness, the warmth.
