The Way Lyrics
Artist(Band):Fastball
They made up their minds
And they started packing
They left before the sun came up that day
An exit to eternal summer slacking
But where were they going Without ever knowing the way?
They drank up the wine
And they got to talking
They now had more important things to say
And when the car broke down They started walking
Where were they going without ever knowing the way?
CHORUS:
Anyone could see The road that they walk on is paved in gold
And It's always summer, they'll never get cold
They'll Never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows Wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They're happier there today , today
The children woke up
And they couldn't find 'em
They Left before the sun came up that day
They just drove off
And left it all behind 'em
But Where were they going Without ever knowing the way?
Anyone could see The road that they walk on is paved in gold
And It's always summer, they'll never get cold
They'll Never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows Wandering off somewhere
They Won't make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They're happy there today , today (repeat)

Review about The Way
well | Reviewer: st33v | 8/2/2008i would say the song is about young adults, not citing wikipedia. It is at least plausible. Young adults tend to lack the feeling of responsibility that those older than them feel. As for abandoning children I must believe that these children are themselves, the children they used to be.
Simply beautifully written, especially for where this song fits into its time period and genre.
Old people it is. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/25/2008
This song is about an elderly couple who took off one morning, where they were heading I do not know, but the band later had a lawsuit brought against them for the song being based on real life events. What the outcome was I do not know.

This song IS about an elderly couple who went missing. Rather than stating your own wrong opinion why don't you just look it up? You'll see that I'm right. And I quote " Fastball bassist Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading journalistic articles which described the disappearance of an older married couple who left home in June of 1997 to attend a family reunion but never arrived. About the song Scalzo said that " It's a romanticized take on what happened" - he pictured them taking off to have fun, like they did when they first met." end quote(from wikipedia)
It IS About Old People. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/11/2008
Seriously, do some research before spouting of your own assumptions.
Tony Scalzo wrote the song after reading a news article about an elderly couple who had disappeared in Texas. He imagined they were ran off on their own romantic trip. Later the real couple was found at the bottom of a canyon. Their RV had veered off the road killing them.

I know exactly what this song means. As the song goes, a young couple were having a stressful life, full of problems and they just couldn't take it anymore, so they packed up and left. Unfortunately they got in a car accident and died. 'Anyone can see the road that they walk on is paved in gold'. Talking about Heaven. And how in Heaven you never get hungry or old. =[ It's sad.

It's a ghost story | Reviewer: pam | 12/3/2007
hi
I'm a singersongwriter. But It can't be about old people because they sing They'll never get old and grey. And old people have grey hair.I think the song is about a couple who had so many problems. And they could'nt deal with the pain.So they took off and got in a terrible caraccident. And how many people abandon there childeren because they have too many problems. So now they wander the high way to stay there for ever. There are many legends that ghosts wander the highway.Ghost can't get older or grey .They don't get hungry. At first sight the melody makes you wanna dance. But if you listen many times there is something sinister about it.The story is sad and it can be that it's based on a true story. But it's a great song.
Interpretation?? | Reviewer: Marie | 11/17/2007
My guess would be that this song is about old people, who die and go to heaven, judging by the words in the chorus. And you don't have to be young to leave your children when you die.. (second verse)..
