Reviews about The Golden Age Of Wireless
Early eighties classic! | Reviewer: Dean | 12/11/2004
Thomas Dolby's debut was a true synth pop classic! Every song on this album is solid. Go beyond "She blinded me with science" and you'll find gems like "Flying north" and "One of our submarines", his take on the Cold War. My personal favorite, though, is "Airwaves". It's much more subdued than "Science" and most of the other tracks, and it features a haunting, lonely sounding melodic theme. His synth work throughout the album is stunning, but he tempers it with humor in his lyrics ("her eyes so red and her lips so blue"-from "Radio silence"). When he recorded this album, he knew he had great songs but didn't take them too seriously. You can tell he had a blast making this music. The results are a lot of fun to hear. I just listened to my vinyl copy earlier today. For me, listening to this album is like visiting an old friend who you haven't seen in twenty years. One of the best from that era.
