Train was formed in 1994 with the collective belief that if
you write and perform great songs, people will listen. The
band's self-titled debut album was produced by Train and
Curtis Mathewson and mixed by Counting Crows guitarist
David Bryson (with the exception of "If You Leave," which
was produced and mixed by Matt Wallace). The album
showcases the band's strong, honest songwriting, great
musicianship and straightforward approach to music. Lead
singer Patrick Monahan says, "The whole band is involved in
the writing of the music. We inspire one another, in a very
collaborative, mutual way."

I think that the beauty of music is that it means something differnet to each person who listens to it...therefore by analyzing it we ruin it completly. This a fabulous song and can mean whatever it wants to mean..that way it is much more beautiful....

to me this is one of the greatest songs of all time. why ever he wrote it.. his mum or a dream... i think it makes it a great song because eveyone can relate to the words on some level and the tune fits the lyrics great song
Now that she’s back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there’s time to change, hey, hey, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June........... eye opener everytime

------ About the song Drops of Jupiter performed by Train
Actually, Mr. Monahan wrote the first lines of the songs when it came to him in a dream. This is about a woman who leaves her man to find out if they belong together. Said Monahan: "This is a woman who's strong and has to find out who she is and a man willing to let her do that." Although this is the type of song which lends itself to personal interpretation, and is most often considered to be about a former lover, a young woman or just someone the writer knew who went on a voyage of self-discovery – not necessarily by traveling to distant lands – it was in fact inspired by something entirely different, the death of the composer's mother from cancer in December 1998. When they suffer personal tragedy, many people feel a closeness to their departed loved one. This is not a song about reincarnation as such, but about the idea that no one ever really leaves us.

------ About the song Drops of Jupiter performed by Train
The song really is about the singers mom who died.
The first 2 lines of the song"Now that she's back in the atmosphere with drops of jupiter in her hair" are saying that she came back to him from heaven. Some of the other parts of the song are talking about what she missed out on. It even says "Did you see the lights all faded and that heaven is overrated. The writer also puts a lot of personal emotion into it like "told a story bout a man wo was too afraid to fly so he never did land" he's saying that he was waiting for his mom to come back because he couldn't let it go.
I LOVE THIS SONG!! 2 BAD HATAS!Yea

------ About the song Get To Me performed by Train
This is my favorite song by Train ever. I love Train, and was really sad when everyone in the band ditched the lead singer, thus ending the band. At least Patrick Monahan is still keeping the music going! He came out with a new album called "The Last Of Seven" because he is the only one left. Some people in the band left for a good resons, but I'm still sad there won't be any more songs from Train. Anyway, this song is great, and is totally my favorite.

I don't think that this song is simply about a girl trying to find herself.
It seems to me that its about the man's girlfriend that leaves him for another woman.
"did Venus blow your mind, was it everything you wanted to find" , Venus meaning "women".
it seems like some of the phrases he says mean "something different" or something rare.
when he says "Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you, even when I know you’re wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone
Conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me" it means can you imagine life without normal things ? because to him, a woman with another woman isnt part of normal life.

I think it's about this guy and the love of his life leaves him, then she returns but she is different because she has picked up bits and pieces of personality traits (drops of jupiter) so he refuses her because he knows he will only get his heart broken.

------ About the song Drops of Jupiter performed by Train
I don't see this relating to his mom. as deep and sad as that idea is, i truly believe this song is about a girl who left him to go and find herself.
The Lines: "Since the return from her stay on the moon she listens like spring and she talks like June" and "Now that she’s back from that soul vacation" likely means his ex coming back after some soul searching.
"Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded, And that heaven is overrated" asks if she saw how where she wanted to go was as much as she believed it was before she left.
"Now that she’s back in the atmosphere
I’m afraid that she might think of me as plain ol jane" most likely means that after being in 'heaven' for a while he's afraid that he won't be good enough for her anymore.
"did you fall for a shootings star, one without a permanent scar" meaning a better guy,
"Your best friend always sticking up for you, even when I know you’re wrong" obviously her best friend defending her side when the two of them fought about something, even when she is wrong.
and of course, "And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there" likely asking if she thought about him while she was finding herself in heaven.
Of course with such an amazing and vauge song as this, it very well could mean something cometely different and this is just one guy's interpritation. either way, translations aside, this is an incredible song.
I loved the whole Train: Alive At Last Album. If you are a Train fan you must get it. It is both uplifting and inspiring. My best friend purchased the album for me and I enjoyed it the first time I heard it.
This song moves me means a lot to me Im practicing it for karaoke and im going to rock the house. After 20 years I reunited with my highschool sweetheart and we got married. It was fate but the time we were apart we never forgot each other. Yes im blessed!!
Wow! Recently something very beautiful has happened in my life. My high school sweetheart, the girl I took to my Senior prom, and I have gotten back in contact with each other. Totally through fate I guess because eventhough 30 years ago I loved her dearly, we had an ugly breakup and I lost my true love and my best friend I thought forever. When we first started talking we started recounting the many great times we have had and the misunderstandings that lead to our break-up. Things are starting to feel like old times. I forgot what it truely felt like to be in love. The feeling I get when I speak with her is like I felt back then. Unfortunately, right now, she lives about 400 miles from me. This is "our" song because when I look to the sky or when I feel lost, I truely feel that she's right there. Even through the distance and other complications, we will be together again someday. I feel strongly about that because I'm lost without her in my life.
Wish this group stayed together
They are simply the greatest. Lead singer is superb!
hOWEVER, without those guys who back him up on this
and all of the other songs on all of the productions.... well he can't duplicate them!
I am a 68-year-old Licensed Clinical Socal Worker stuck in a 32 year old mind and body........ HELLO! I own everything TRAIN has recorded. They are magic together. Please do not sell my email address - I will block all of them other than you.
thanks
my favorite line is... did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there...
its not about love or a girl trying to find herself.
i think its just his way of saying how he felt when his mom died.
hella sad

------ About the song When I Look To The Sky performed by Train
I can't believe no one has reviewed this song. It's amazing. I remember, I was shuffling my iPod. I had just stolen some songs from my sister's itunes, and didn't know half the songs. Back then, I was a complete music idiot. Then a song called "When I Look To The Sky" comes up. I think I was going to hate it. The song starts up, soft, melodic...then the voice starts to hum. I stop what I'm doing, and sit up.
Slowly, I digest the words. I think about the loss our family had just suffered.
My sight turns blurry.
Slowly, systematically, my brain digests the words.
Tears slip out, even as I try to blink them back. They leave shiny trails down my cheek.
They aren't big sloppy tears. They were soft, tiny, but I didn't know why, and I couldn't stop.
The song ends, softly, and I slump in my seat. I press the rewind button. Listen to it over and over again, until I memorize it.
And that night, and only that night, I dream about the people lost.
The people I missed.
The people who were taken away from me...but also who I had given up willingly.
So much of life.
So much of each other.
