More than any other artists of their time, Britain's UB40
have proven the power of pop-influenced reggae music. With
worldwide sales topping 30 million albums during their
career, the UB40 story demonstrates just how far people can
go by staying true to their roots. UB40 grew up in the
heart of Birmingham, one of England's most ethnically
diverse cities. The summer of 1978 saw the eight band
members drawn together by their love of the skanking
Jamaican reggae vibes.
Taking their name from a notorious British unemployment
form, the multi-racial group of young men proceeded to
spend the next six months in a basement, collaborating on
ideas and learning their instruments. By early 1979 they
had played their first local gig. Through the rest of the
year UB40 perfo More...

------ About the song Red Red Wine performed by UB40
I'm a music lover rather than a UB40 fan but I have a couple of their albums just because they are excellent. Surely one of the best songs of the 80s. Simple words that paints the picture, no garnish, no fuss, no surplus. Most music videos are mediocre but the original video (black & white) for this song actually enhances the message. A very touching song.

------ About the song Bring Me Your Cup performed by UB40
The lyrics for this version of the song are for the cut found on 'Promises and Lies' but it is also known as: Bring Me Your Cup-7" version. Other people will list the lyrics for the version on the 'The Very Best of 1980-2000' album. Yeah, it is aggrivating when artists or labels release different different versions of a song... makes me work that much harder to find all the versions of that song... *sigh*
Gary Tyler is still locked up | Reviewer: Maroon
------ About the song Tyler performed by UB40
I love the song and have listened to it over and over again for years. i even have it on my Mp3 player. This doesn't negate the fact that Gary Tyler about whom the song was named/written has been locked up for 36 years for a crime that he did not commit. Too bad the song hasn't help him.

------ About the song Bring Me Your Cup performed by UB40
well hmm.., these lyrics are to the Bring Me Your Cup off of "Promises and Lies" so... maybe people are just lacking in listing the rest of the song? or maybe they're just dumb... I don't know... either way, the correct lyrics are here, so we're good!

------ About the song Tyler performed by UB40
I remeber listening to this album all summer after it came out. Fantastic reggae with a conscience. It made me go and find out about dub reggae as well, for which I am always grateful. This is one of several classic songs from UB40.

------ About the song Tyler performed by UB40
B4 UB40 became a "covers band" (and they do it nicely) they had THEIR OWN SONGS which rocked, this one in particular. Us old guys 9MEANING UB40 FANS b4 1982) KNEW they were good. "Breakfast in Bed" and "I got you Babe" only solidified it. good work kids
As far as the lyrics are concerned, I saw it at may site but many didn't care to put it properly. The line -
NOW YOU'RE FEELING WAT I FEEL.
was missing.
Nice work, keep it up and all the best.

------ About the song Homely Girl performed by UB40
How many of us haven't met a girl from our early boyhood, the one whose presence wasn't so significan't then but now in the prime of her womanhood she has blossomed into a princess!!!
This song is an attempt by a man to convince this 'girl' that even when everyone was frowning down on her, he always stood by her.I don't know of a girl who would be able to resist this one!!!
In my humble opinion, this is the greatest UB40 track of all time.
The band have produced some great covers over the years, but this goes back to their roots.
The first time I ever heard the UB40 sound I was hooked to their style of reggae. They certainly a world-class act and i have yet to coe across a song of theirs I dont appreciate. UB40 is da bomb man.

I like this song, it's ace, the lyrics are great and not depressing like a lot of songs, but still it has a nice, slow tune, rather than a fast one. Very different. =]

------ About the song Food For Thought performed by UB40
And despite the valiant efforts of Bob Geldof and Bono etc, the 'ivory (and ebony) madonna' is still waiting for that manna from the west...
Standout tune, lyrically and musically.
