We are kings of our own domain, but at the cross we surrender all of our power, our own "authority", our own selves. I like to introduce this song in that way as well...that this is an invitation for us to surrender our own selves to Christ...so what Crown do you need to lay down..or what "hat" do you need to surrender?.. I believe that the crown is simply referring to our possessions or something precious to us. Theology | Reviewer: Les | 10/8/2007 I do not find any error in the lyrics as we sing them at our church. However, I do find an error as it relates to my understanding of the Bible. While we are still on the earth, it is my understanding that we have no crowns to lay down. After we get to heaven, we will have crowns to lay down. Hence, the words should say "we WILL lay our crowns" or WE"LL lay our crowns". Because of what I believe to be a theological error, I find difficulty worshipping while singing the song as written.
