Whispering Pines Lyrics

Review The Song (3)Print the Lyrics
If you find me in a gloom, or catch me in a dream
Here inside my lonely room, There is no in between.
Whispering pines, rising on the tide.
If only one star shines
It's just enough to get inside.
I will wait until it all goes 'round
With you in sight, the lost are found.
Foghorn through the night, calling out to sea
Protect my only light, 'cause she once belonged to me.
Let the waves rush in. Let the seagulls cry
For if I live again, these hopes will never die.
I can feel you standing there, but I can't see you anywhere.
Standing by the well, wishing for the rains.
Reaching to the clouds, for nothing else remains.
Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done
Try looking through a pool of haze,
At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun.
I will wait until it all goes 'round.
With you in sight, the lost are found.

Dar covered this. It was written by the band. If I'm not mistaken, Richard manuel wrote the music, and Robbie Robertson wrote the lyrics. I haven't heard dar's version, but I do love the band's original version. The vocals are amazing. This is such a haunting song on so many wonderful ways.

Songs rewrite their meanings - for each new listener they speak to. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/29/07

This song was written decades before I was born.
I bought a poor quality greatest hits compilation of The Band at a yard sale for 50 cents. And when this song came on - It pulled tears out of me as though someone simply opened a faucet. Every lyric, every word was poetically vague enough to fit into a specific moment of my life that I'm still (and may always be) getting over... And its poetically perfect in the emotional story it convey's... Dar williams may have had a specific person in mind when he wrote this, but he also wrote it for me. Great songs tend rewrite their meanings - for each new listener they speak to.
