After recording two solo albums, former Deep Purple
vocalist David Coverdale formed Whitesnake around 1977. In
the glut of hard rock and heavy metal bands of the late
'70s, their first albums got somewhat lost in the shuffle,
although they were fairly popular in Europe in Japan.
During 1982, Coverdale took some time off, so he could take
care of his sick daughter. When he re-emerged with a new
version of Whitesnake in 1984, the band sounded revitalized
and energetic.

I heard this song a life time ago on a 8track after a break up.
It kept me going and it was always in my head. Being a singer of
ago, I never forget where it came from. Music in those days had
heart, today everyone wants to crap or dance. Its a shame my
child of 10 might never know what real songs/music is about.
Thank You guys and gals for hanging in there.

the original lyrics had the band say...."like a hobo" and not a "drifter"....it was changed to the latter when the song crossed the pond(atlantic) and went to the states...the record company had the uhhm...wisdom to put drifter word seeing that hobo rhymed with homo back in the day.
just something i heard... you know..the kind where people say that Xbox 360 was named after the first 3 buttons of the playstation remote...the x button, the box button and the circle(360).

I don't know why, but I find myself writing these phrases down all the time. Subconsciously, I write them..with reference to Whitesnake. anyhow, I might own the song.. but I don't really listen to it. wierd.. Some subliminal message that really makes sense to me. One of my favourite early Whitesnake songs, and one of David Coverdales most soulfull performances certainly rivalling Soldier Of Fortune for emotion. Younger Coverdale was unmatched when it came to this kind of singing, such a warm, rich charismatic tone which seemed to flow so naturally. Pure talent!
