Actually the pattern is a message to the Aliens from Alex and Geddy that they can have all of the Earth except for Toronto. Toronto is theirs. It's just a convenient coincidence that it matches the Toronto airport code.

The riff at the begining of the song actually spells out the letters Y, Y and Z in morse code. So basically that is lyrics

im pretty sure that if you play it backwards, the sound of the notes make out the words: i love satan, god is gay.

Alex Lifeson has been piloting for some number of years. On flying into the landing pattern for the Toronto International Airport, the classic transmitted identity code (morris code) - that code ( -.-- -.-- --.. )translates to "YYZ". It is infact the same pattern and pace as the introduction to the song.
